In addition to this, they may be required to do minor repairs to equipment and apparatus, and store and maintain accounts of instruments, equipment, apparatus, etc, if required.

Laboratory Assistant, Chemical

The key responsibility arena of a laboratory assistant (chemical) includes arranging various chemicals, instruments, and apparatus such as salts, acids, balances, and heaters as desired by Chemists for conducting experiments in a chemical laboratory, setting up the required apparatus and equipment as directed, performing routine tasks, such as preparations of standard solutions and common reagents, weighing and measuring of salts and chemicals, filtration, precipitation etc. and conducting simple tests as directed by Chemist. In addition to that, they are required to clean and maintain balances, keep the laboratory clean and tidy, keep the required chemicals readily available, and replenish stock from stores. They may also clean special apparatus if required.

Process Man, Chemical

Process Man is responsible for processing chemical ingredients by mixing them in specific proportions, heating, distilling, cooling, filtering, blending, percolating, refining, pulverizing, etc., causing chemical reactions for research or production purposes, obtaining schemes of processing from Chemist, setting apparatus and equipment, collecting chemicals in the specified quantities, observing temperature readings, regulating material feed, conducting simple chemical tests, heating and cooling devices, straining filters and distilling chemical substances, etc. They may also be designated to job roles like Distilling Still Attendant, Filter Pressman, etc, based on the type of materials they process or the plants they are in charge of.

Bearing Maintenance

The role of bearing maintenance is to identify problems in equipment, rectify the root cause in case of leakages, lubricate the bearings, ensure the fitness of all other types of bearings, and carry out routine maintenance processes.

Reactor Convertor Operator (Chemical Process, except Petroleum)

These operators are required to operate or tend to pieces of equipment other than those used for treating petroleum, which perform a sequence of complex operations in the chemical reaction process. They regulate the feed of gaseous, liquid, or solid material into equipment and check the progress of the process by looking through peepholes, observing temperature readings, pressure gauges, and other instruments, and making simple chemical tests.

Pump Man (Petroleum Refining)

These pump men are required to control pumps and circulate crude semi-compressed and finished petroleum products, water, and chemical solutions through processing and storage departments of the refinery according to schedules or instructions, utilizing knowledge of interconnections and capacities of pipelines, valve manifolds, pumps, and tanks. They synchronize activities with other pump houses to ensure the continuous flow of products and minimum contamination between products.

Evaporator Operator

The Vacuum Pan Operator charges and operates an evaporating tank, vacuum pan, or similar device to concentrate solutions by driving off excess water contents, pumps weak (liquid) solution into the evaporator tank or pan, operates the vacuum pump to obtain vacuum in the pan if required, regulates flow of steam into heater coils of the evaporator, periodically tests concentrations of solution by use of instruments or by making simple chemical tests, makes necessary adjustments to temperature and pressure to obtain required solution, pumps concentrated solution from evaporator for auxiliary heating, implements safety measures concerning operation of plant/machinery and in handling and processing materials, oils and maintains machinery.

Crusher Operator, Chemical

These operators are entrusted with the responsibility of operating power-driven crushing machines to break solid lumps of chemicals or other materials into smaller sizes for further processing. They collect materials to be crushed, fill hoppers of machines by hand or by operating mechanical feed, and fix screens and machines to retain pieces that are too large. In addition to that, they operate the controls to start, stop, and regulate the speed of the machine, break oversized or jammed lumps with a hammer, and discharge crushed material into outlet container-cleans crusher and work area.

Autoclave Operator Sterilization Attendant

Autoclave operators charge, operate, and unload charges for processing chemicals, oils, or sterilizing bottles, ampoules, etc. They charge and load vessels with predetermined quantities of chemicals or objects, check valves for operation, raise the temperature of the autoclave by increasing steam pressure, observe pressure and temperature gauges, thermometers, timings, and other instruments, and make necessary adjustments to ensure that process or sterilization is carried out correctly. They often unload products on completion of the process and prepare the vessel for the next batch. They also implement safety measures regarding the operation of plant/machinery and in handling and processing materials and maintaining machinery.

Acid Plant Operator

Acid Plant Operators are responsible for maintaining and operating acid plants for manufacturing sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric, or other acids by treating raw materials (Sulphur, salts, etc.) with acid or steam. They collect the required amount of raw materials for the preparation of the desired acid, set up and check equipment, valves, gauges, and other instruments, charge the vessel with a predetermined amount of chemicals, or regulate the feed of materials into equipment. Moreover, they also control the temperature in the vessel by adjusting steam pressure, checking the progress of the process by looking through peepholes, observing temperature readings, pressure gauges, and other instruments, and making simple chemical tests. They are also required to regulate material feed and heating or cooling devices and, as necessary, remove acid when the process is completed.
