The admission process of NIT Trichy begins with the release of application notification by the college. In order to get admission in NIT Trichy, candidates need to begin with filling up of the application form. The application form is available on the official website of NIT(Trichy). After the successful filling of the application form, applicants can proceed with the admission procedure. Only the candidates who manage to qualify the entrance exam are considered for admission. Applicants must note that they need to submit the application fee along with other required documents while submitting the application form. A candidate will be able to get admission finally only if he/ she clears all the rounds successfully. After qualifying the entrance examination, the candidates are involved in the counselling process or interview/group discussion (depending upon the course they have applied for). Candidates should have scored a minimum of 75% in class XII examination from any recognised board. Candidates should have studied Physics, Mathematics, Language, Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational and any other subject in class XII. Mathematics and Physics are two compulsory subjects to apply for the course. In order to get admission in B.Tech and B.Arch courses in NIT Trichy, it is compulsory for students to qualify JEE Main. Admission of the candidates to these courses is based on the ranks scored by them in the Joint Entrance Examination Main.

Candidates belonging to OC/OBC category should have secured 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying degree. SC/ST/PwD candidates should have scored 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA in the qualifying degree. Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination from a recognized institute/University. Candidates seeking admission in M.Tech and M.Arch courses offered by NIT Trichy have to qualify Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering GATE. Final merit list for admission is prepared on the basis of GATE Score.

The seat allotment process for M.Tech and M.Arch programmes at NITT depends upon the GATE Scores and availability of seats. Candidates having GATE scores of previous years are given preference over candidates having GATE scores of recent years. If candidates have GATE scores of the same year then preference is given to the student who has scored higher GATE marks. In highly unlikely conditions, if two candidates have the same year as well as GATE scores out of 100 then the elder one is preferred for the admission.

Candidate must have completed his/her graduation in any discipline that has relevance to the subject she/he is applying for. General category students must have secured 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA in graduation. SC/ ST/ PwD students must have secured a minimum of 50% marks or 5.0 CGPA in graduation. Candidates studying in the final year of graduation are also eligible to apply for this course. Students seeking admission in M.Sc. Chemistry or Physics in NIT Trichy have to qualify the Joint Admission Test (JAM). Only the candidates with recent years’ JAM scores are considered for the counselling process.
Admission to M.Sc. Physics and Chemistry in NITT are done through a Centralized Counselling process. The merit list of the candidates solely depends upon JAM scores of the recent year. Apart from the JAM scores, candidates also need to satisfy the eligibility norm to be considered for the counselling process.
General category students must have secured 50% marks in graduation from a recognized university. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category must have scored a minimum of 45% in graduation. Candidates seeking admission in MBA programme in NITT have to qualify the entrance examination called Common Admission Test (CAT). Merit list is prepared on the basis of CAT Percentile of the registered candidates.
Followed by the merit list based on the CAT score, candidates have to sit for a Group Discussion (GD). Shortlisted candidates have to then appear for the Personal Interview (PI) round. Final merit list is prepared taking CAT score, GD and PI into consideration.
Candidates belonging to General category should have scored 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute. For SC/ST candidates, the percentage of marks required is 55% or 6.0 CGPA. Candidates should have studied statistics/Mathematics/Business Mathematics in any semester/year of graduation and at 12th level. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination are also eligible. Candidates seeking admission in MCA in NIT Trichy need to qualify NIMCET.
The seat allotment for MCA in NITT is done on the basis of NIMCET scores. No inter NIT transfer of candidates is done after the admission to NITT. The list of the candidates called for seat allotment is published on the official portal of NIT Trichy.
