How to Build Your Profile for MBA Admissions

How to Build Your Profile for MBA Admissions

For students who wish to study management, a strong profile always carries a lot of weightage both during MBA course admissions and later during job placements. According to the latest trend, Top B-Schools in India are targeting the “Profile” of candidates to shortlist them for admissions. B-Schools are basically assessing an individual’s capability by looking at his/her achievements beyond academics.

When applying for admission in top B-Schools, it is very important for candidates to present the best version of themselves to the ADCOM (Admission Committee). From a job perspective, involvement in co-scholastic activities like internship, sports, research, community, and services help in creating a positive impression on the recruiters and provides them with a good enough reason to make you a part of their team.

Building a strong profile for MBA admissions not only means that one should only focus on creating one but also to plug the gaps in one’s existing profile.

    What is Profile Building?

Technically, profile building is an activity that highlights the expertise, skills, and achievements of an individual that play an important role in enhancing his/her career aspects. In layman’s language, “combining the series of achievements from (usually) class X till date to boost your career prospects” is known as Profile Building.

Proper planning and execution are very important while building a good profile, which will help you stand apart from the crowd. Profile building during the early stages of learning boosts your confidence, communication skills, personality and credibility, which prove highly effective during the job hunting process. It plays an important role in career advancement.

A fresher must possess a strong profile if he/she wants to compete with someone who has work experience.

Steps to Build Your Profile for MBA Admissions

While there are plenty of MBA entrance exams in India that students take for MBA admissions in India, it is not the only factor that determines whether or not you will get admission in your desired management institute. Apart from scoring well in MBA or EMBA course exams such as CAT, XAT, and CMAT, an MBA aspirant must not ignore building a good and attractive profile.

From what we’ve seen in the past, not scoring very well in entrance exams does not diminish your chances of getting into a top MBA college like S.P Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR), Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, or any other popular college where the focus is majorly on a candidate’s profile.

In some of the top management colleges, candidates are shortlisted based on their composite score or their average score, which is prepared based on the evaluation of entrance test score, work experience, 10/12 scores, certificate courses, diploma, extracurricular activities, etc. and a merit list is prepared to shortlist candidates for admission under various MBA courses. In short, a good composite score is equivalent to a good profile.

Here are some pointers that can help you build your profile for MBA admissions:

    1. Work Experience

A candidate with work experience is usually given more preference due to his/her understanding of the business tactics and market requirements. If you decide to skip a year to prepare for an MBA entrance exam, we strongly recommend you to utilise that time period to gain some work experience. The work experience of a candidate will only be considered relevant if s/he has been working for more than 18 months including the training period, which can vary between 3-8 months.

    2. Certificate Courses

Pursuing a certificate course/s in your subject of interest will help you develop a particular skill set. It will provide an added advantage to freshers or those who have left their job before 18 months. For example, pursuing an MBA in Finance, certificate courses in Excel, Financial Planner, etc. will be very helpful for you while you build your profile.

    3. Internship

Best ROI MBA Colleges in India 2023: Fees, Average Salary, Highest Salary

Best ROI MBA Colleges in India 2023: Master of Business Administration (MBA) is not only one of the most popular courses in India but it also ranks high among the most expensive courses in the country. Top management colleges in India charge a fortune for their flagship business programs, whether it is a PGP or Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). However, why is it that the high program fee for MBA has no effect on the popularity of the course? It is because MBA also happens to be one of the best-paying degrees in India.

The exact course fee for a PGDM/MBA course from a reputed college in the country varies on the MBA specialization and other details associated with the course. However, on average, the total fees for a PGDM/MBA course range from Rs. 10 - 25 lakhs. It is quite obvious that any student who would be willing to invest such a large amount in their education would expect good returns from the course and MBA is a course that delivers on that promise. If you have completed your management education from a good college such as IIM, you are sure to grab an above-average salary package in the Indian context. Here, an important thing to note is the ROI or Return Over Investment of your course.

What is ROI (Return on Investment)?

If you have researched the best B-schools in India, chances are you have come across the term Return on Investment (ROI). ROI basically means how much you are earning after completing a course vs the amount you spend in completing the course. Note that:

    • A college with low course fees but high salary packages will have a high ROI.

    • A college with high course fees but the same salary package as the previous college will have a lower ROI than the previous college.

As an MBA is an expensive course, many students are on the lookout for MBA scholarships in India and apply for education loans in India to pay for their courses. For such a student, it is especially important to select an MBA college with a good ROI to ensure that he/ she can pay his student loans on time and get the best salary from their degree. Notably, an Executive MBA course could be a good substitute for an MBA.

MBA After Hotel Management: Eligibility, Top Colleges, Best Specializations

MBA After Hotel Management: Eligibility, Top Colleges, Best Specializations

Master of Business Administration (MBA) is surely one of the top choices of postgraduation courses in India. Because an MBA can be pursued after any stream of graduation, candidates from almost all streams of education whether it is engineering, science or arts can be found pursuing MBA courses in India. The variety of MBA specializations offered in India is diverse enough to cover almost all different streams of education, which includes Hotel Management.

Hotel Management is a popular stream of education in India and what makes it so is the promise of a particularly rewarding and glamorous career, plenty of opportunities to work all around the world and, on a basic level, the perks that come with working in the hospitality industry. This helps attract thousands of students for hotel management admissions every year through hotel management entrance exams such as the NCHMCT JEE.

    Why MBA After Hotel Management?

An undergraduate degree in hotel management, tourism or hospitality, such as Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) or Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) or Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTTM), has a good scope in itself. However, adding an MBA degree to your portfolio after completing Hotel Management can boost your profile and open new avenues of growth.

However, it must be noted at this point that going for an MBA after Hotel Management just for the sake of it will not be as beneficial. For a graduate who has just walked out of a hotel management college in India, pursuing an MBA may not even cause a significant or any difference in the starting salary. This is because there would be an essential element missing in the puzzle: Work Experience.

Pursuing an MBA degree after you get some work experience in the hospitality industry can take you a long way forward. Having hospitality work experience before going for an MBA will not only improve your perspective about the MBA course but also help you make better decisions with respect to which hospitality niche you want to get into and, based on that, which MBA specialization to choose after Hotel Management.

What are the Benefits of an MBA after Hotel Management?

An MBA after Hotel Management can be beneficial in a number of ways. It can:

    • increase your management, critical thinking and analytical skills.

    • increase your theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to the subject.

    • help you be a viable candidate for higher-level posts in your organization or company.

    • have a direct positive impact on your salary and growth.

What are the Best MBA Courses for Hotel Management Graduates?

The good news for Hotel Management aspirants is that there are a number of MBA courses in India that are specially designed for professionals working in the field of Hotel Management, Hospitality and Tourism. Given below are some of the best specializations of MBA you can go for after completing a bachelor's degree in hotel management, hospitality or tourism. MBA Colleges Accepting 90-95 Percentile in CAT 2022: More than 2 lakh students appear for the CAT exam each year, which ultimately results in cut-throat competition among them. Now that the CAT 2022 result is declared, candidates can start searching for apt MBA institutes based on their percentile score. Those securing anything above the 90 percentile can easily find good colleges in India. In fact, many IIMs and B-schools accept a 90+ percentile for admission in their MBA programs. CAT 2022 test-takers can check out the CAT 2022 score vs percentile analysis, CAT cutoff 2022 for IIMs, and other related information in the links below.

Top MBA (Master of Business Administration)/PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) institutions in India like the IIMs, SPJIMR, FMS Delhi, and MDI Gurgaon accept a cutoff percentile of 90 and above. Past trends show that IIMs mostly accept CAT scores above the 90 percentile. However, a few IIMs also accept CAT scores in the range of 80-90 percentile. Every aspirant aims to crack the exam by attaining the highest percentile to get admission into their preferred management colleges and institutes. However, not many candidates are able to score above the 90 percentile. A significant number of candidates have their CAT scores ranging from 80 to 90 percentile. MBA Education Loan: Eligibility, Top Loan Schemes, Steps to Apply, Tips

Master of Business Administration (MBA) is one of the most expensive postgraduate courses in India. Even though the course offers high returns, MBA colleges in India demand a high investment up front, which many students are unable to afford out of their pockets.

Top MBA colleges such as the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) charge a premium for their high-quality MBA courses. With IIMA recently hiking the fee for its flagship course to Rs. 23 lakhs, the MBA course fee for IIMs now range between Rs. 13 - 23 lakhs. The amount is higher if a student is opting for an Executive MBA course.

It is not just the IIMs, other MBA colleges in India also charge a hefty sum for their courses. The fee for an MBA from a good college can easily lie between Rs. 5 and Rs. 20 lakhs. MBA course fees above Rs. 10 lakhs are becoming more common with each academic year. Add to this the cost incurred in books, lodging, and other essentials and the cost of pursuing an MBA increases.

Therefore, it becomes necessary for students to look for ways to fund their MBA education. Luckily, financial institutions in India offer student education loan options to finance your education. Keeping in mind the high expected returns on an MBA course, banks readily grant these education loans to students who have secured admission into a top-tier MBA college.

In this article, we have provided all of the important details about MBA Education Loan in India.

Why Take an MBA Education Loan?

An MBA Education Loan is financial assistance offered by banks and other financial institutions to a student for continuing their education. The loans are offered to students who have already secured admission to an MBA course. Here is why taking an MBA Education Loan can be helpful:

      • Extends your pocket: MBA Education Loans can help you complete a course that you may not have been able to afford on your own.

      • Prevents missed opportunities: There are many students who would not be able to afford the fees for an MBA course without an MBA Education Loan. It is a very important investment that can help boost your career and open up new avenues for growth.

      • Provides Almost 100% Coverage: MBA Education Loans generally cover almost all of the expenses you incur during your MBA education.

Thus, an MBA Education Loan can bring more colleges within your reach, which is essential considering the high cost of doing an MBA from reputed colleges some of which have been mentioned below.

Students with a valid score in the CAT exam or any of the management entrance exams can find an MBA college that suits their needs and requirements. MBA Colleges in Maharashtra include many top-ranked B-schools in India. B-schools located in cities like Mumbai and Pune are always on the list of the top 20 MBA Colleges in India.

Maharashtra is one of the states that conduct the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for state-level MBA admissions through MAH MBA CET. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra is responsible for conducting MBA admissions in Maharashtra. Students can check all the details of Maharashtra MBA admission 2023 here.

MBA Admissions in Maharashtra 2023: Selection Process

There are three ways in which a candidate in Maharashtra is selected for admission into MBA colleges in the state. Candidates must go through the following selection processes to get a clearer understanding:

Selection Process through MAH MBA CET/CAT/GMAT/CMAT Exams

      • DTE Maharashtra manages the registration process for CAP (Centralised Admission Process).

      • Candidates with a valid MAH MBA CET/CAT/GMAT/CMAT score are eligible to register for DTE CAP.
      • The selection process is based on the MBA/MMS merit list released by DTE Maharashtra.
      • The seat allocation is based on the rank or merit of the candidates in the entrance exams.
      • During the counselling process, the candidates have to exercise web options.
      • Based on rank and college preferences, DTE allocates seats.
      • Usually, DTE Maharashtra conducts four rounds of CAP, and the candidates who are not able to secure a seat in the first round of CAP can take part in subsequent rounds.
      • Maharashtra domicile students are eligible to take part in DTE CAP.

Selection Process Through Other Entrance Exams

      • Students who are not interested in taking part in DTE CAP can apply for popular B-Schools individually with a state or national-level entrance test core.
      • These institutes may shortlist the candidates based on their entrance test scores.
      • The shortlisted candidates have to take part in other stages of the selection process that involve a Group Discussion, Written Ability Test, and Personal Interview.
      • The institutes decide the mode of the selection process.
      • The final selection for MBA/MMS course is based on the candidate’s performance in all stages of the selection process.

Direct MBA Admission/ Management Quota Admission in Maharashtra

      • Students who did not take part in DTE CAP or were unable to secure seats can approach the private colleges and deemed universities directly for admission under the management quota.
      • The individual institution decides the eligibility criteria for management quota admission.
      • DTE sanctioned 20% of seats to each private management institute that can be filled through the management quota.
