Southwestern University is a private methodist university in Georgetown, Texas offering undergraduate courses only and the oldest too. It was established in 1840 by Methodist missionary Martin Ruter and has evolved as one of the finest liberal arts colleges in Texas.

Southwestern has been ranked as the #1 undergraduate liberal arts college in Texas in 2019 by Forbes. It has earned a significant place in the US News and World Report 2020 and is placed at 3 in the nation among impact Schools and at rank #1 in Texas—for Career Services. It also has been ranked in the top 100 National Liberal Arts Colleges and #1 in Texas by  U.S. News & World Report.

It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the baccalaureate degrees.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Located on 701 beautiful Central Texas acres, Southwestern has its own “100-acre wood,” also known as the academic campus. The campus includes community garden, swimming pool, recreation center, live-performance theaters, and on-campus observatory and housing . The premises also allows students to lead approximately 100 student organizations.
Southwestern offers more than 35 majors through its schools Brown College of Arts and Sciences, the Garey School of Natural Sciences, and the Sarofim School of Fine Arts. Popular majors include Business Management, Social Sciences, Biological, and Biomedical Sciences, Communication and Journalism, and Psychology.

Accomplishments & Alumni

Southwestern University has beating UT-Austin in the first college baseball game played in the state. Southwestern University has a SCOPE (Summer Collaborative Opportunities and Experiences) program, an eight-week program that occurs every summer allowing students to work full-time on collaborative research with a faculty mentor. 

Southwestern has produced a number of students who have turned into contributors to modern America and few of them are John Tower, RedMcCombs, Bill Engvall, Mike Timlin, Akshay Nanavati, Jim Gibbons, Tom Bradley amongst many others.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

Though Southwestern only offers only bachelor's programs, it strives hard to maintain a diverse classroom group. In fall 2019 it admitted 1,511 men and women, of which 33 percent were under-represented students. Eighty-eight percent of its students are from Texas while 12 percent come from 34 other states and 16 countries. International students represent 11 countries on the Southwestern U campus. The international students majorly belong to China, the Netherlands, and the Bahamas.

Some of the top employers are; Airborn, Inc., Texas Electric Cooperatives, Chatsworth Products Georgetown, Lone Star Circle of Care, Manitex, Caring Home Health, Accenture Federal Services, Apple Inc, GM Financial, IBM, etc.
