AILET 2026 Seat Allotment Process and Criteria Used

AILET seat allotment process is crucial for all those who have appeared for the AILET 2026 Exam. AILET seat allotment takes place through a centralised online counselling process where different factors are taken into consideration, such as your All India Rank (AIR), preferences, category and seat availability to decide which BA LL.B (Hons.) or LL.M seat you finally get at NLU Delhi. Students must note that they can secure their seat only by completing each AILET counselling step, such as timely registration, fee payment and document verification as per the deadlines of the university.

How is AILET Seat Allotment Process Done

Once the AILET results are declared, NLU Delhi then publishes a counselling invite list, which is not a direct allotment. In the invite list, you can find your name or roll number and check if your rank falls within a range that is considered for any particular round, category and course.

If your ranks fall within a range as per the merit list, then you are required to:

  • Register for online counselling through AILET login.
  • Deposit counselling/registration fee as per the deadline.
  • Upload all the required documents to be considered for seat allotment.

If any student fails to complete these steps in time, then they are treated as ‘not interested’, and their chance for that round is lost, even if their rank is high.

AILET 2026 Seat Allotment Round by Round

AILET seat allotment takes place in multiple rounds using provisional merit lists. Every round of AILET 2026 counselling takes place in three steps, and the same cycle gets repeated which is: merit list publication, provisional allotment, and fee submission.

The set of processes that are followed in each round includes the following:

  • NLU Delhi arranges students in order of AILET rank separately for each category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, etc.) as per the official seat matrix.
  • Seats are offered as per the preference, and the highest-ranked students are positioned first, and the process continues till all the seats are filled in that category for that round.
  • If you are allotted a seat, you must pay the provisional admission fee within the deadline, failing which the seat is treated as vacant and the same is offered to the next student in subsequent lists.
