Set up before independence in 1941, Delhi Technological University (DTU) enjoys a long-standing presence as one of the oldest technical institutes in India. Formerly known as the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), the university is one of the top engineering colleges in the nation. Generally compared with first-generation IITs, DTU holds an immense reputation for excellent placements and a holistic curriculum. The alma mater of DTU includes world-class engineers and professionals such as the ‘father of Pentium Chip’ Vinod Dham, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder & CEO of Paytm, and well-known venture capitalist, Raj Soin.
Renowned for its emphasis on technological and engineering studies, DTU offers a wide range of specialisations with B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD courses such as Computer Science, Software, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. DTU courses are also offered under science, humanities and management streams which includes degrees like BBA, BA in Economics, B.Des, M.Sc, and MBA.
DTUhighly impresses with the quality of its students hailing from across India, creating an environment of academically driven peers. As per the NIRF report 2023 , around 50% of students in DTU belong to states other than Delhi. Additionally, the university strives to maintain a conducive student-to-faculty ratio which is 43:1 as per QS Top Universities. Moreover, It exhibits a rich culture of research and innovation providing students with hands-on experience and exposure in diverse areas.
However, the faculty of DTU is a blemish on the record! Students have negative reviews about the expertise, teaching quality and intent of the DTU faculty. Let’s look for more details!

Our Take:
The NIRF Ranking of DTU has improved year after year. It is ranked amongst the top 30 engineering colleges in India jumping up 6 positions in 2023. The overall ranking also rose by 2 spots securing the 61st position in India. This reflects the quality of the university in terms of various parameters used by NIRF. Additionally, DTU ranking under the university category dipped 2 positions in 2023. However, the score has improved from the previous years. Saying that the NIRF Ranking of DTU has shown a consistent rise would not be incorrect.
Delhi Technological University provides a diverse range of academic offerings including undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. DTU course list includes 4 UG courses, 3 PG courses and a PhD in 15+ areas of research. The university follows Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) across its courses prioritising student’s interests and skill development. Continuous and comprehensive evaluation is also practised to ensure regular assessment of students’ proficiency levels.
We connected with a few students who proudly shared that the curriculum of DTU is at par with IITs and NITs. The faculty uses a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning. Overall, it’s a blend of classroom teaching, practicals, laboratory, industry projects, co-curricular activities, quizzes, assignments, projects and internships.
According to the NIRF report 2023, DTU batch size accounted for 10,397 students in the academic year 2021-22. The actual strength of the students was not more than the sanctioned intake, says the report. However, DTU is facing a challenge in terms of providing ample facilities to students due to the yearly increase in intake.
Our Take:
The academia of DTU Delhi is equivalent to top engineering colleges in India. It ensures the holistic development of the students and makes them industry-ready. Moreover, issues related to facilities due to increasing batch size can be resolved by due efforts.
Classroom: Based on students’ reviews, classrooms at DTU are well-ventilated and fully air-conditioned. Most classrooms have good furniture and are ICT-enabled.
Auditorium/ Seminar Halls/ Labs: DTU has 2 auditoriums, Dr BR Ambedkar Auditorium and the newly built Raj Soin Hall. The latter one has a seating capacity of 3,000 people, which is huge! It is a multi-purpose hall laced with advanced audio and video equipment. Moreover, DTU has well-equipped laboratories for each department.
Library: DTU has a fully air-conditioned library with a rich collection of books and journals. Students can issue up to 3 books for 15 days and reissue them twice using the library app. Also, there is a book bank facility which enables students to issue 3 books for the whole semester.
Internet: The DTU campus is fully equipped with a high-speed internet facility which ranges from 1 to 10 Gbps. As per students' feedback, the Wi-Fi facility is available 24x7 on campus and in hostels.
Commute: DTU provides free cycle rides for easy commutes inside the campus.
Hostel: DTU provides separate hostel facilities to boys and girls. There are 9 boys’ hostels, 6 girls’ hostels and one hostel for international students. Each hostel is equipped with a recreation room, reading room, mess and gymnasium. 24x7 medical facility, Wi-Fi connectivity, night canteen, and subscriptions to daily newspapers and journals are provided by the DTU hostels.
As per students’ reviews, single to triple-occupancy hostel rooms are available with AC and non-AC choices. Rooms are not very spacious but well-ventilated. The food quality at the mess is average on most days and good on special occasions. There are not many restrictions for boys to roam around the hostel at odd hours as far as they get caught by the warden!
Activities: DTU is not just about studies. It offers abundant opportunities for students to indulge in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities. There are various student clubs which conduct regular activities. Seminars, workshops and guest lectures are part of DTU academia. Students were all praises for DTU annual fests, the ENGIFEST (Cultural Fest), TECHFEST (Technical Fest) and YUVAAN (Literary Fest).
Cafe/Hang-out: DTU has multiple food joints across the campus such as MechC, Mic-Mac, Nescafe, Amul, Juice Stall, and Maggi Baba according to the students. The campus is located in a suburban area of Rohini which has relatively fewer hangout places such as Metro Walk, Japanese Park, G3S and a few malls. However, travelling a few kilometres will land you in amazing places in Delhi!
Our Take:
DTU offers an amazing campus experience and hostel life to its students. From infrastructure to facilities, everything is impressive here. The university ensures students do not face any inconvience at the campus. The cultural events at regular interval act as a calamant for students and rejuvenate them.
Delhi Technological University (DTU) provides generous internship opportunities to let students get hands-on experience in the industry. Some of the well-known companies that visit the DTU campus to recruit interns are Qualcomm, Toshiba, Tata Steel, Mazares, Tata Power DDL, and Deloitte as per students’ reviews on Quora. However, there are fewer companies visiting DTU to recruit students from core branches than companies for COE, SE and IT.
DTU holds an impressive placement record over the years. In 2023, 70%-80% of B.Tech students got placed with handsome packages on hand. Students from non-core branches received an average package of INR 10 LPA to 15 LPA and the highest package touched INR 82 LPA. Along with this, the students from core branches received good average packages between INR 18 LPA to 25 LPA. Most of the students on Quora have shared positive reviews about DTU placements.

DTU Major Recruiters:
Our Take:
As compared to top engineering colleges in India, DTU is no less in offering excellent placement opportunities to its students. The domestic average package of core branches is really impressive. Also, many students receive international placements with packages of around 1 crore LPA. However, the placement rate and average packages of non-core branches are comparatively low. This could be mainly due to the current industrial trend. Overall, the internship and placement scenario of DTU is considerable.
DTU is known for its diverse student body which includes students from different states of India. The ratio between students hailing from other states and New Delhi is equivalent for the BTech programme. Moreover, DTU attracted 76% of students from other parts of the country for its M.Tech and MBA courses. This clearly shows that DTU has a strong presence all over the country. However, DTU could not provide a healthy gender representation that accounts for only 15% of female students in aggregate.
Let’s inspect the demographics of the 2021-22 batch as per the NIRF Report 2023.

Our Take:
The popularity of DTU across the nation is due to its excellence in academics and exposure. However, it can initiate some outreach programmes to attract more international students. The unbalanced gender diversity can be due to the nature of the courses it offers. As per the current trend in India, male students are more inclined to engineering courses than female students.
The Delhi Technological University has more than 862 faculty members according to the NIRF Report 2023. Though DTU has some knowledgeable and sincere teachers, it lacks in providing expert faculty and quality teaching as per DTU alumni on Quora. The majority of the teachers are not willing to teach genuinely. However, they are helpful enough to guide students and resolve their queries. The lines by Dumbledore, “Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it” totally suit DTU faculty!
Our Take:
After scrutinising students reviews, it is evident that DTU lacks expert faculty and genuine teaching intent. It has a large faculty body which can be sufficient to offer personalised guidance to students. DTU can initiate teacher-training programmes and follow up with regular quality checking to offer better education to its students.
Delhi Technological University is located in the capital of India, Delhi. The location of DTU main campus is P4X9+Q8X, Bawana Road, Shahbad Daulatpur Village, Rohini, New Delhi, Delhi. Located in the suburban area of a metropolitan city, DTU is well connected with roads, metro, rail and airways.
Catering to a large student body of around 10 k, DTU has impressively managed to provide excellent infrastructure, facilities and opportunities to the students. Looking at the fee structure of DTU, it ranges between INR 3.5 Lakh to 10 Lakh. The fee for the most sought-after course of the university, BTech, is around INR 10 Lakh, which is really hefty! However, the ROI for B.Tech at DTU balances well when comparing the high fees with the high placements. Except for the faculty of DTU, the university is a good choice for aspiring engineering students.

Note: Insights gathered through various sources across internet like student reviews, ratings, student testimonials etc
Overall: DTU is one of the top engineering colleges in India, offering a solid academic foundation combined with a dynamic campus life. The admission process is merit-based, using JEE Mains scores, and the competition is fierce, particularly for non-Delhi candidates due to the 85% Delhi quota. The course curriculum is good for foundational knowledge, especially for technical subjects like OOPs, DBMS, and OS. However, some advanced topics only touch the intermediate level. The schedule can be hectic, with exams, projects, and tests tightly packed into a two-month timeframe. Despite the challenges, DTU's strong placement record, internship opportunities, and vibrant extracurricular activities make it a preferred choice for aspiring engineers.
Placement: DTU’s placement and internship opportunities are one of its strongest aspects. From the 5th semester onwards, students can apply for internships, some of which include pre-placement offers (PPOs). Top companies like Microsoft, Apple, Bain, and Infosys visit the campus for both internships and placements. Sprinklr, for instance, offers one of the best internship stipends at ₹2 lakh per month. The official placement season begins in the 7th semester, with a significant portion of students securing jobs by the end of the season. While DTU provides in-house internships, these are often not as appealing as external ones. Placement statistics have shown a slight decline recently, but DTU continues to maintain a competitive edge, with a decent number of students placed in high-paying roles. Overall, DTU’s strong corporate connections and its ability to attract top recruiters make it a great choice for career-focused students.
Infrastructure: DTU boasts a well-equipped campus with spacious classrooms, projectors, and Wi-Fi facilities in most areas. The library stays open late, providing a good environment for studying, and is well-stocked with books that are usually available. The sports grounds are large, with equipment available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The campus also features a variety of food outlets and canteens that cater to students late into the night, making it convenient for both day scholars and hostel residents.
Faculty: The faculty at DTU is a major highlight, known for being knowledgeable, approachable, and experienced. Many professors, such as Trasha Gupta and LN Das, are well-versed in their subjects and adopt a balanced teaching approach that helps students understand both theoretical and practical aspects. Some faculty members, like those in applied physics, were particularly renowned for their teaching quality and overall guidance, although faculty turnover occasionally leads to the loss of such gems. While most professors are helpful, a few are stricter with marking and can be inconsistent with conducting classes. Exams vary in difficulty, with some subjects being more challenging than others, depending on the professor. The curriculum offers a solid theoretical base but might lack the depth needed for advanced industry-level work, requiring students to self-learn emerging technologies. Despite minor drawbacks, DTU’s faculty ensures a robust academic foundation while fostering independent learning.
Hostel: Hostels at DTU, including JCB and VMH, provide a comfortable and convenient living experience for students who need accommodation. Rooms are clean, and amenities like Wi-Fi ensure students stay connected. Hostel life is vibrant, offering opportunities for bonding and participating in various activities. The campus nightlife is lively, with canteens like Mic Mac operating late into the night, making it easy for students to grab a meal or snack after long study sessions. The library also stays open until 10 PM, creating a productive environment for students who prefer studying late. Beyond academics, the campus organizes some of the best fests in North India, with active student societies that cater to a variety of interests. From sports and cultural events to workshops and hackathons, DTU’s campus life is dynamic and engaging, ensuring that students have a well-rounded experience both inside and outside the classroom.
Overall: It's having a good campus of 225 acre which includes everything you need except swimming . But the intake of Delhi region student is very high which is the main issue
Infrastructure: No college has a comparison except some iits . It's the oldest engineering college .it includes many iconic building like OAT, mini OAT , raj soin hall , BR auditorium and twin tower which is just amazing

Overall: I mean it is an all right college there is nothing unbelievable but still. The social life is hard to keep up with but academics comes as a balance to it if you can mix yourself in.Just temper your expectations.
Placement: We can almost guess the tone of their advertisement concerning the number of vacant positions which is quite legitimate for business, engineering, etc. But as for the other majors, we find that we are really left alone to seek an internship/vacancy.
Infrastructure: These brick and them boards feel good, but finding an apartment that is not too expensive is another matter. Although you can move to luxurious dorms. With all the old and dull houses and dorms.
Faculty: Some professors spend all their time on the edge of their classroom seats while lecturing while others do not have their ears on what is supposed to be discussed in the class.
Hostel: Only if you are ready to spend top dollars would you probably be in a well-furnished room with all the comforts you need. Otherwise, cramp, barebones dorms with very few amenities should be expected.

Infrastructure: Great thing about DTU is its spacious campus with the availability of all modern infrastructure required for smooth teaching and learning paradigm. The library is one of the best in class with ample sundry books for all kinds of readers. Sports facilities are top class with almost all sporting grounds and equipments.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful. There are many great teachers who take teaching and studying really seriously but there are also many teachers who just don't care about teaching, which at first seems really nice. The semester exams aren't that difficult though. The course curriculum is nice too, in my opinion.
Hostel: The entire campus including hostel area is fully Acidified and wified. Area is very clean and dirt-free. Food/Meals provided by college to hostel students was good and healthy and most important clean. Rooms was better but not soo good in my session.

Dear Manish,
As you have completed the physical reporting in DTU, we hope the document verification has been completed on your part. If these both steps are done, the authorities will inform you regarding the commencement of the session, which is expected to begin anytime soon. Also, you have to fill out the hostel registration form separately. The DTU hostel registration has begun and you first have to check whether or not the first-year hostel registration for your course has started. You must fill out and submit the form as soon as possible as the hostel intake is limited. You have to enter your JAC registration number or JEE roll number to complete the admission process.
Hope this helps!
