National Institute of Technology, Nagaland (NIT-N) is a technical institute for higher education which is situated in Chumukedima (Dimapur), Nagaland.The institute started functioning in the year 2010 as a part of Government of India’s 11th Five Year Plan which approved 10 new NITs, and NIT Nagaland is one of them. During its budding years, National Institute of Technology, Nagaland operated from within the campus of National Institute of Technology, Silchar Assam under their able guidance. NIT Nagaland was relocated to its present campus at Chumukedima around 14 kilometres from Dimapur, Nagaland in the year 2012. Since then, the institute under the leadership of Director Dr S. Venugopal has become one of the leading centres imparting education in the field of technology in the state of Nagaland.
NIT Nagaland offers various courses under its Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD programme. Currently, it offers admissions to over 200 students combined together for all the available programmes. Registered under the societies act, NIT Nagaland is managed by the NIT Nagaland society and receives funding from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. NIT-N faculty boasts of bright, highly experienced and knowledgeable members who are entrusted with the responsibility of offering technical education in a manner convenient to the students. The institute organises workshops and specialised training programmes related to medical engineering, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, biotechnology, sensors technology etc. with the aim of producing highly skilled engineers and entrepreneurs.
The campus of National Institute of Technology, Nagaland is spread across a vast area of 291 acres with all state of art infrastructure and facilities. The institute also provides feeder bus service for employees and staff residing outside the NIT-N campus. Hostel facility is also provided by NIT Nagaland for both boys and girls to cater to students from all across the country. NIT Nagaland alumni have successfully established themselves in top industrial sectors such as Infosys, Wipro, BHEL, Capgemini, Powergrid etc. NIT Nagaland organises the annual techno-cultural fest called Ekarikthin where students from inside and out of Nagaland participate to display their talents in various technical and cultural events. Since its inception year, NIT Nagaland has strived relentlessly to achieve its goal, i.e the overall development of the students and nurturing them to become responsible and self-motivated citizens of India.
