CUET 2024 offers a single platform and equal opportunities to all aspirants in India. Still not sure if the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a good choice? Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of taking the CUET 2024 Exam!
Advantages and Disadvantages of taking CUET 2024 Exam

CUET 2024 provides a single platform and equal opportunities to all aspirants across India, as well as reducing the stress of candidates having to take multiple university entrance exams. However, CUET is primarily concerned with academic excellence, potentially overlooking students' talents in extracurricular activities. As a result, this limitation may not provide an in-depth overview of an applicant's abilities. The Common University Entrance Test, also known as CUET, is a national-level entrance exam for admission to all UG programmes offered by central universities. The CUET UG 2024 is administered by the NTA for admission to undergraduate courses offered by central, state, private, and deemed universities throughout India. This year, the NTA has added 29 CUET domain subjects and for subjects with more than 1.5 lakh registrations, the CUET UG exam will be held in an offline mode, with pen and paper.

Let's look at both the advantages and disadvantages of taking the CUET exam, focusing on its impact on the students and the educational system.

Why is the CUET Exam Important?

There are several reasons why CUET 2024 is important, to mention a few:

  • Merit-based selection: On the basis of how well they performed on the entrance exam, candidates are considered.
  • Wide range of courses: Opportunities in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, and Commerce are available through CUET.
  • Equal opportunities: Candidates have equal chances of being admitted to the university and course of their choice through CUET.
  • Common platform: The burden of taking different entrance exams for each university is lessened by the Central Universities Entrance Exam (CUET).
  • Proves skills and knowledge: Candidates have the opportunity to show their expertise in a given field and subject by taking the CUET.
  • Reduces bias: The Class 12 Board Examination marks being used as a criterion for admissions have been eliminated by the Minister of Education by making the CUET Entrance exam mandatory.

Mainly, CUET UG 2024 is a single entrance exam applied to select students to various central, state, private and deemed universities, in India. It is a merit-based selection process that ensures candidates have equal opportunities for admission to their preferred university and course. Moreover, the exam covers a wide range of subjects, including arts, sciences, commerce, humanities, and social sciences giving students an opportunity to get admission into their desired colleges.

Advantages of Taking CUET Exam

There are a number of benefits for candidates taking the CUET exam, as it is one of the biggest UG entrance exams. Read on to learn the advantages of taking the CUET exam.

Standard Evaluation: Through the use of CUET's standardised evaluation system, students' academic abilities are consistently and fairly assessed. By doing this, biases related to CUET participating universities' admission requirements may be eliminated.

Common Platform for Admission: CUET makes it easier to apply to a variety of undergraduate and undergraduate programmes. Also, it gives universities access to various applicants by holding a nationwide exam that opens doors for students from a variety of backgrounds and places.

Less Dependence on Board Examinations: Students have the opportunity to show their thorough knowledge and abilities in CUET subjects, which may not be fully evaluated in board exams, through CUET, which serves as an alternative to board exams.

One Entrance Exam: To alleviate the burden of taking separate entrance exams for every university, CUET is a single entrance exam for admission to numerous central universities throughout India.

Streamlined Admissions Procedure: The CUET exam helps with the admissions process, which benefits both applicants and universities. As a result, admission to CUET UG courses may be processed more quickly and easily.

Wide Range of Courses Available: Opportunities are available in domains such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Humanities, Social Sciences, and more through CUET, which offers a broad range of disciplines.

Important for Higher Education: For those considering continuing their education in central universities, CUET is important.

Disadvantages of Taking CUET Exam

Similarly, candidates who take the CUET exam face a few disadvantages. Let us take a look!

Increased Stress among Students: Students who are already under a lot of stress during their academic journey may experience even more during the initial stages of CUET preparation. The stress of board exams is increased by the pressure to perform well on the CUET.

Time-taking Examination: Exams for each CUET domain subject taken by a student must be taken separately. It can take a lot of time to complete the CUET exam, including travel time.

Expensive: For certain candidates, the CUET may be a little costly.

Preparation After Class 12: Students may find it stressful to begin CUET preparation immediately following their Class 12th exams.

All the States do not accept CUET:  As of March 2024, 46 central and 36 state universities will accept CUET UG scores. However, some universities do not accept CUET scores. Even some of the states of India do have concerns with CUET.

Include CBSE Syllabus only: The CBSE syllabus is the primary focus of the CUET syllabus, and the majority of students study the State syllabus instead, which may be a disadvantage.

Admission Through CUET Scores 2024

NTA is expected to provide the CUET UG result 2024 and score in the third week of July 2024, following the completion of the exam. It is mandatory for applicants to CUET participating universities 2024 to fill out the CUET application form 2024 with their preferred courses and additional colleges. A merit list or CUET cut off will be announced based on the scores that candidates have received, and the scores will be distributed to the colleges and universities that have applied.

The number of candidates who received a score equal to or lower than a given score divided by the total number of candidates who took the exam is how the CUET percentile is determined. It shows a candidate's standing in comparison to other CUET applicants.
