As we know, the CAT registration consists of several formalities that are put in place to help certain categories of students. What are SC/ ST/ NC-OBC/ PwD/ EWS Certificates?
Candidates belonging to any of the SC/ ST/ NC-OBC/ PwD/ EWS categories will have to attach their caste certificate while filling out the application form. These certificates are proof that the candidate belongs to a particular category. The caste certificates will comprise some important information such as the name of the candidate, the address of the candidate, and his belonging category. You can download the caste certificates from the official website of CAT.
How to Apply & Download Category Certificates for CAT?
You will have to register on the official website of CAT to download the caste certificate for the CAT exam. The complete procedure to download the caste certificate is provided below.
Go to the official website of CAT - iimcat.ac.in.
Click on the appropriate reservation form under the "Certificate Proformas and Forms" column and then proceed to download.
Fill in all the necessary details such as name, category, and address.
Get the application form attested by the gazetted officer.
Once done, attach the scanned copy of the form with the CAT application form.
Submit the CAT application form.

Importance of SC/ ST/ NC-OBC/ PwD/ EWS Certificates for CAT Registration
It is necessary for the candidate belonging to any reserved category to attach his caste certificate along with the application form. The caste certificate will be required to confirm the category of the candidates. It must be noted that you will have to attach a scanned copy of the certificate along with the form while the original copy of the certificate will be required during the time of admission.
What is the EWS Category for CAT Registration?
Candidates whose family income is not more than 8 lakh per annum and who do not fall under any reserved category are considered as EWS category. They will have to submit an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority to apply for a reservation.
Who Are the Candidates for the EWS Category?
- The Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of the society or the Economy Based Un-Reserved Category who do not fall under the category of SC, ST, and OBC.
- The candidates whose gross annual family income is less than Rs 8 lakh are awarded the CAT reservation.
- The reservation can be availed on the Income generation and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority.
Who Is Excluded from the EWS Quota?
Irrespective of the annual family income, if the candidates lack the following eligibility criteria, they can not avail the benefits of the reservation:
- Whose families have 5 acres and above agricultural land.
- Those who own a residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. and above.
- Those whose parents own a residential plot of 100 sq. and above yards in the mentioned municipalities.
- Whose parents possess a residential plot of 200 sq. and above yards in places other than the mentioned municipalities.

What is the NC-OBC Category for CAT Registration?
CAT offers 37% reservation to the NC-OBC or non-creamy layer of the OBC category. Candidates who satisfy the conditions provided below are eligible to apply for NC-OBC.

The annual income of the candidate should be at most 6 lakh
What is the PwD Category for CAT Registration?
There are three categories of disability i.e. Hearing impairment, Low vision blindness, and Locomotor disability or Cerebral Palsy. As per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, candidates with at least 40% of a specified disability where the specified disability has not been defined in measurable terms and those whose disability has been defined under measurable teams are categories under the PwD category.
What is the SC/ST Category for CAT Registration?
As per the eligibility criteria set by IIM, CAT reservation is also provided to SC/ST category students. The SC and ST category candidates are provided with 15% and 7.5% CAT reservations respectively. Moreover, the candidates from the SC/ST category must have a minimum of 45% aggregate in graduation or equivalent.

All the IIMs, as well as the various government institutes of India, follow the reservation criteria decided by the Government of India. CAT Registration: Important Points
- Google Chrome (version 59 and above) and Edge Chromium or Mozilla Firefox (version 56 and above) are the recommended web browsers for filling out the CAT application form.
- The CAT application form should not be completed on a smartphone. Fill out the application on a desktop computer or laptop.
- Make sure you double-check every piece of information you entered on the CAT application form before clicking the "submit/save key."
- Once submitted, there is no way to amend the form. You will need to fill out the form, create a new login ID, and pay the cost once more.
- For future use, keep a copy of the CAT application fee acknowledgment slip and a copy of the properly completed application form.
