How to Analyze CLAT Mock Tests to Spot Your Weak Areas

Once you have completed the mock test, start your analysis immediately after 30 minutes of your mock. In the initial days, the analysis should not take more than 1 to 1:30 hours. The step-wise strategy to review performance and identify your weaknesses after every mock attempt have been provided below.

  • Maintain a CLAT Mock analysis notebook and divide it in a manner where you can add the analyses for different mock tests. Write Mock number, date, and way of attempting. After analyzing Mock 1, note down the topics where you have made significant mistakes, leave 5 pages and move on to Mock 2. The last 10 pages of the notebook shall be dedicated to the important topics and problematic areas of each section. You must dedicate some time every week to go through the notes, assess your performance, and modify your study schedule to concentrate on your weak areas and enhance both concepts and speed.
  • The mock test tracker must contain overall score & sectional scores, time required to solve each problem or time spent in each section, rate of accuracy and negative marks in every subject, common patterns of errors (silly mistakes, conceptual errors, misreading the question, guessing, etc.), topics or type of questions where revision is required, and improvement or deterioration of scores over time.
  • If your mistakes are conceptual, you must gain clarity over fundamental concepts Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques by revisiting theory to get concepts cleared and practise questions of similar pattern. If you misread or misinterpret the question in Reading Comprehension and Legal Reasoning passages, practise active reading, identify important keywords, and equip your mind to pick out relevant information. For silly mistakes, calculation errors, or time management issues, slow down while solving the problems, double-check your answers, and attempt the mocks with full diligence and concentration.
  • Apart from noting down the incorrect attempts, solve the un-attempted MCQs without a timer to boost your knowledge and reinforce learning, and go through the reasoning of all questions. For wrong attempts, write down the flaws and examine the nature of your mistakes in your reasoning, and before the next mock, quickly go through the last analysis.
  • After your results are released after each mock, look for the patterns to evaluate if you consistently make frequent mistakes and score lower in some particular sections like logical reasoning, current affairs, or math questions that carry high negative marking. For better analysis, take a look at your scores in each section and if you realize that there are specific areas where you struggle, take excessive time, or have poor accuracy, set specific goals for improvement in your next mock test like improved accuracy and better time management.
  • Allocate additional time practising questions from sections or topics where you are struggling or your scores are lower. Take resort to study materials or online resources to strengthen your weak areas. Read a wide number of editorials and legal articles daily to improve your accuracy in inference-based questions, vocabulary, or grammar asked in the English Language section. Skimming through daily news, summarizing key points, going through monthly compendiums and taking quizzes daily will enhance your efficiency in current affairs. Practise legal reasoning questions like parajumbles, assumption-based questions, and strengthening-weakened arguments regularly; solve puzzles & logical games for Logical Reasoning; and basic math concepts weekly using a timer for Quantitative Techniques.
  • Note down your scores and ranks after appearing for each mock test as a record of your performance and review them to compare your performance over time, analyze how you are improving with time and create a table for keeping a track of your progress containing the mock test number, Score, Rank obtained, and negative marks. You would know your rank amongst your competition and how much you need to prepare to enhance your scores. If you analyse your mocks correctly, your scores will be improved subsequently.
  • The ideal strategy to solve CLAT questions and maximize your scores is answering as many easy questions as possible rather than wasting time on challenging ones. After taking the mock test, analyze if you have spent a lot of time on a single question, rushed through easy questions and made reckless errors, or attempted more problems with smart question selection and improved strategy.

Yes, students are allowed to use a rough sheet and pen during the LPUNEST online exam for calculations or note-taking. However, they must show the sheet to the invigilator before and after the test through the webcam. Any unfair use of rough paper can lead to disqualification.
