Government College of Engineering & Technology - GCET

 The Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu (GCET) was established in the year 1994 under All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) norms vide Notification No.F-18-1/93-AICTE/910 dated: April 30, 1993 and is affiliated to University of Jammu, Jammu. The inauguration of the college was done by the then His Excellency, the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, General K.V.Krishna Rao on 5th October, 1994 at Old University Campus, Canal Road, Jammu. This was the first Institute of its kind in Jammu region.  New Campus of GCET has also come up on an area of 869 Kanals of land at Chak Bhalwal, Jammu near Amb Ghrota which is 22 Kms. away from Old University Campus, Canal Road, Jammu. The construction work under Phase-I comprising of Departments of Computer Engineering and Civil Engineering besides Common Lecture Halls and Hostel Block has been executed by JKPCC Ltd., The Construction Work for Mechanical Engineering Block and Workshop Block has also been completed under Phase-II whereas the construction work of Administrative Block and Library Block under Phase-II is going on. The College New Campus was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister Jenab Ghulam Nabi Azad on August 12, 2006 and all the departments are fully functional at New Campus, Chak Bhalwal, Jammu.  Nine Academic Departments are involved in the Teaching/Training work from 1st to 8th Semesters i.e. Five concerned Engineering Departments and Four Applied Sciences Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Humanities & Social Sciences. Out of 21 batches admitted in GCET from 1994 to 2014 ,so far 17 batches of students upto 2010 have passed out from this Institute whereas students of 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively are studying the courses in B.E 7th, 5th, 3rd and 1st semesters. The Examination schedule for all Semesters (Regular/Supplementary) are being conducted in consultation with Controller of Examinations, University of Jammu, Jammu twice in a year as per academic calender of the College/University. The Boy's Hostel has been started in the new campus. The construction of SC/ST Girls Hostel under AICTE and State Govt. Funding has been started by the JKPCC.

  The goal of Training & Placement Cell is to Provide employment opportunities and world class training to GCET Students in Leading Orgainizations.    Training :          IT arranges training for students in industries for 4 weeks at the end of 6th Semester. The students of the college undergo their training at various prestigious organizations as BSNL, RRL Jammu, HCL etc. The students act as a channel of communication with industries.    Placements :          All the reputed organizations including MNCs come to the College for campus recruitment. To achieve its goal, the Training & Placement Cell works towards recognizing the core competencies of students. It works through a close knot organization and has a structure which conveys information to the students at the fastest possible rate. The Training & Placement Cell firmly believes in 'Industry-Institute Interaction'. In order to accomplish 'Industry-Institute Interaction' it organizes technical talks and seminars to provide a platform for the budding engineers to interact with professionals from various industries. It encourages visits to the industries by the college students. It arranges for industrial problems to be worked on by students as part of their projects. It also takes suggestions from members of industry regarding designing/changing of curriculum.
