The campus of National Institute of TechnologySilchar is among the most beautiful ones and is spread over 625 acres of land with 19 lakes and tea gardens inside the campus. The campus of NIT Silchar is one of the most facility rich campuses of the total north-eastern zone of the country. The campus of NIT Silchar has hostels, gymnasiums, playgrounds, auditoriums, library etc.
NIT Silchar classrooms are modernised with air conditioning and all required e-learning facilities. The classrooms are equipped with projectors and are capable of delivering presentation based lessons in NIT Silchar classrooms. There are a total of 8 hostels for boys and 8 hostels for girls in NIT Silchar. The NIT Silchar hostels are equipped with academic and recreational facilities and are well maintained.
The campus library is the biggest digital library in entire Asia and is dedicated to the late president of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The health centre at NIT Silchar is active 24x7 and gives all required assistance to the students who are in need of medical help. NIT Silchar medical facilities are available at very low cost.
A 150 x 90 meters playground at NIT Silchar is there for students to engage in all kinds of outdoor games such as cricket, football, tennis, volleyball etc. NIT Silchar has a dedicated basketball ground also.
There is a fully operating State Bank of India (SBI) Branch in the campus for fee payment services and all other personal banking services. There are also fully air-conditioned computer labs with 24x7 seamlessly connected high-speed internet.
The Institute has got eight Boys hostels and three Girls hostels. During the year under review, construction of 1000-bedded Boys Hostel No-9, 300-bedded PG Boys' Hostel and 100-bedded Married Scholar's Hostel has been taken up. All the hostels have their individual Mess Management Committee to look after the fooding requirement for their boarders.
NIT Silchar has always striven to encourage an equitable balance between academics and extracurricular engagements among its students. The intention is to create future leaders in chosen fields and not just technically accomplished individuals.Inorder to promote this various society have been encouraged under various departments and technical organizations.
The Electronics and Telecommunication Department has an active Society called “Electronics Society” which has been formed with a view to promote various technical activities among the students. Both the faculty and the students are the members of the Society.
The Electrical Engineering Society aims at guiding the students to undertake various activities like technical seminars and debates on various fields of electrical engineering which enables the students to keep pace with the rapidly changing technology.
The students and the staff of the Civil Engineering Department are the members of the Society. The Society aims at organising various activities for the professional development of the students. The most important function organised annually by the Society is “aaghaz”. It involves a wide variety of events including seminars, paper presentations, debate, quiz and software contests.
The Mechanical Engineering Society, called “MES” is an integral part of the Department which aims at bringing the best out of the students and helping them hone their skills through various activities conducted by the Society. The Society is also involved in active consultancy works for the development and utilization of resources of the North-Eastern part of India.
IEEE NITS (National Institute of Technology, Silchar) is one of the many student organizations working under IEEE, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, headquartered in USA. We are a part of the IEEE Kolkata Section, under Asia Pacific Region (IEEE Region 10). Being one of the few IEEE branches in the north-east, we hope to fulfill our role to bring the latest innovations in technology to this vibrant corner of India.
The Institute has a very active ISTE Students’ Chapter and a Teachers’ Chapter as well. The Institute is an Institutional Menber of ISTE as well. The Society is chiefly concerned with the technical and educational extra-academics. In addition to these events, the Institute also organizes rock concerts, food fests, Institute freshers and farewell.
The Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (EIE) has a society, the INSEES (Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering Society), comprising of the faculty and student members of the department. The society has been formed with a view to promote various technical activities among the students. It aims to play an active role in the development of students as potential engineers by various out-of-curriculum and extra-curricular activities including organizing of seminars, paper presentations, debate, quiz and software contests. The society also organises socialisation programmes for the freshmen in the society.
INSEES aims to inculcate among its members an awareness and appreciation of the various disciplines of not just Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering but also other relevant fields. By way of its activities, INSEES aims to be a platform for all the students of NIT Silchar in general and particularly of the students of EIE department. The INSEES plays a vital role as an active organization of the EIE department at NITS which promotes career interests of the members.
