IIT Bombay Courses 2026: UG, PG, PhD, Fees & Eligibility

IIT Bombay offers 80+ courses across undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and executive levels in engineering, science, design, management, and humanities. At the UG level, IIT Bombay offers BTech, BS, BDes, and dual-degree programmes. At the PG level, the institute offers MTech, MBA, MSc, MDes, MS by Research, MPP, and several integrated dual-degree programmes. IMumbai IT Bombay also offers PhD programs in Engineering and Management, which last 3-5 years. IIT Bombay fees 2026 range from INR 1.13 to INR 15.15 Lakhs. The IIT Bombay fees for 4 years BTech are INR 8.59 Lakhs.

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) has launched new courses: MTech in Climate and Sustainability and MTech in Manufacturing Processes, Systems, and Automation. IIT Bombay also offers professional certificate programmes in Cybersecurity and Software Development through the IITB Trust Lab.

IIT Bombay offers courses at UG, PG, PhD, and executive/certificate. BTech CSE is the most popular course at Bombay IIT. Some IITB course, like MTech is offered in a part-time mode, which is only for sponsored or working-professional categories. IIT Bombay course fees range from INR 1.13 Lakhs for MTech with TA fellowship to INR 15.15 Lakhs for MBA as the total program fees. SC/ST/PwD students get the tuition fee waiver for all the courses. IIT Bombay BTech fees is INR 73,000 to 91,000, which covers only the non-tuition semester charges and one-time admission fees over the course duration.

IIT B MTech Group I TA students receive an INR 12,400/month stipend, which is more than the total fee cost. The table below shows total IIT Bombay course fees for major programmes (excluding hostel costs).

IIT Bombay offers 4 UG courses in BTech, BS, BDes, and BTech + MTech Dual Degree. The BTech in IIT Bombay is offered in 11 specialisations, and the BS in 4 disciplines. All IITB UG programmes are for 4 years except the Dual Degree, which spans 5 years. 

IIT Bombay BTech Course 2026

IIT Bombay BTech is offered in 11 branches across engineering disciplines. All branches carry the same tuition fee (INR 1,00,000 per semester), regardless of specialisation. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay BTech admission is exclusively through JEE Advanced and JoSAA counselling.

In addition to the 11 core BTech branches, IIT Bombay also offers minor courses in AI & Data Science, Entrepreneurship, Robotics, Applied Statistics, and Energy Engineering. These Minor courses are open to all BTech students regardless of their home department.

IIT Bombay BS Course 2026

IIT Bombay BS course is a 4-year programme offered in 4 disciplines: Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, and Applied Geophysics. IITB BS admission is through JEE Advanced and JoSAA. Students completing the BS programme can choose to continue for a 5th year to earn an MSc degree.

Note: A few seats of IIT Bombay BS are also available through the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) for outstanding mathematics students. 

IIT Bombay BDes Course 2026

IIT Bombay BDes is a 4-year programme offered through the IDC School of Design in the specialisation like Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Interaction Design, Animation Design, and Vehicle Design. IIT Bombay also offers a 5-year integrated BDes + MDes dual degree

The BDes course in IIT Bombay requires a UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design) score, conducted by IIT Bombay, while IIT Bombay does not offer direct admission into a 5-year integrated BDes + MDes program from the start. At the end of their third year, top-performing students can opt to convert their 4-year degree into a 5-year Dual Degree (BDes + MDes).

IIT Bombay PG courses are offered in Engineering & Science, Design, Management and Humanities & Policy. The IITB PG course list includes MTech, MSc, MS Research, MPP, MA Research, MDes, MDP, MBA, and MA + PhD. 

PG courses IITB admission is based on discipline-specific national entrance exams, like GATE, IIT JAM, CAT, or CEED, followed by a written test and/or interview at the institute level.

IIT Bombay MTech Course 2026

IIT Bombay MTech programme is a 2-year full-time or 3-year part-time programme offered across 18 disciplines and 34 specialisations. IIT Bombay MTech has a new specialisation, Manufacturing Processes, Systems, and Automation, which was introduced in 2026, replacing Manufacturing Engineering.

MTech TA fellows receive an INR 12,400/month stipend for a maximum of 24 months. MTech RA fellows receive INR 13,400/month for up to 36 months.

IIT Bombay MSc Course 2026

IIT Bombay MSc is a 2-year course offered in 7 specialisations. During the MSc programme, top-performing students may convert into the PhD programme as per Senate-approved eligibility criteria. The MSc + PhD dual degree is offered in 3 additional specialisations, Environmental Science & Engineering, Operations Research, and Energy Science & Engineering, for students who wish to continue directly into doctoral research. MSc students admitted with a TA fellowship pay INR 17,750 per semester and receive a monthly stipend of INR 12,400.

IIT Bombay MBA Course 2026 (SJMSOM)

The MBA course at IIT Bombay spans 4 semesters and is offered through the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM). MBA courses in IIT Bombay include 23 core courses, covering Finance, Marketing, Operations, Strategy, and Human Resources. IIT Bombay admission for MBA is through the CAT score, followed by a Personal Interview.

 IIT Bombay MDes Course 2026

The IIT Bombay MDes at the IDC School of Design is a 2-year programme in Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, and Animation Design. An MDes by Research option is also available for candidates seeking a research-focused design degree.

IIT Bombay MS by Research, MPP, and Other PG Programmes 2026

IIT Bombay MS by Research is available in Computer Science & Engineering, Data Science and AI (under CMInDS), and Healthcare Informatics (under KCDH). These are 2–3 year research-intensive programmes. 

IIT Bombay MPP (Master's in Public Policy) is a 2-year programme under the Centre for Policy Studies, focusing on governance and public administration. MDP (Master's in Development Practice) is a 2-year transdisciplinary programme under CTARA for candidates interested in rural technology and sustainable development.

IIT Bombay PhD course is offered across 20+ departments. It runs for a minimum of 3 years. The PhD program is broadly divided into two phases: Coursework (Phase 1) and Research Work (Phase 2). PhD scholars under TA receive INR 37,000/month for the first 2 years, rising to INR 42,000/month; under RA student gets an INR 42,000/month, rising to INR 47,000/month.

 IIT Bombay PhD selection is through a written test and/or interview by individual departments. GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JEST, NBHM, or DST-INSPIRE fellowship are typical entry requirements.

Note: IIT Bombay also admits a limited number of BTech graduates with CGPA 8.0+ (from IITa s) directly into the PhD programme, bypassing the master's requirement. This direct-to-PhD pathway is available in most engineering departments and some science departments.

IIT Bombay online courses 2026 include a wide range of options spanning from free short-term courses to advanced postgraduate diplomas. Online courses by IIT Bombay are delivered through various official channels, including the government’s NPTEL/SWAYAM portal, international platforms like Coursera and edX (via IITBombayX), and its own Continuing Education Programme (CEP). Below is a list of online courses in IIT Bombay

• NPTEL & SWAYAM (Free MOOCs with Paid Certification): These are government-supported platforms where IIT Bombay offers many courses. Learning is completely free, but if a student wants an IIT Bombay online courses with a certificate, they need to pay around INR 1,000 and take a proctored exam.
• Coursera & edX (Global Certifications): IITBombay also provides courses through IITBombayX on these global platforms. Students can study course content for free, but certificates and graded assignments require payment.
• e-Postgraduate Diplomas (e-PGD via CEP): These are fully paid advanced online programs by IITB for working professionals. These typically run for 12 to 18 months, require a bachelor's degree (and sometimes a qualifying GATE score or work experience), and include mentorship and structured learning. Admissions and eligibility criteria are managed directly through the official IIT Bombay CEP portal (cep.iitb.ac.in)

Note: NPTEL/SWAYAM courses run on a specific semester timeline, usually starting in January/February and July/August each year. CEP e-PG Diplomas have formal admission cycles requiring an application and a bachelor's degree.

IIT Bombay offers several programmes for experienced professionals outside the regular full-time campus programmes:

• Sponsored MTech (Part-time): Working professionals from reputed organizations can pursue MTech as a part-time student (3 years), with classes scheduled from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM. No financial assistantship is provided to sponsored candidates. A GATE score or 2 years of relevant experience is required for most disciplines (except CSE, which mandates GATE for all).
• Professional Certificate Programmes (IITB Trust Lab): IIT Bombay launched two professional certificate programmes in 2025 — Professional Certificate in Cybersecurity and Professional Certificate in Software Development. These IIT Bombay courses online are short-term, industry-focused programmes open to graduates and working professionals. Offered online/blended.
• NPTEL / Swayam Online Course: IIT Bombay is a key contributor to the NPTEL platform, offering 200+ free online courses in engineering, science, management, and humanities. These courses are open to anyone globally and offer certification upon passing proctored exams.
• CEP / Continuing Education Programmes: IIT Bombay's Dean (Educational Outreach) organizes short, intensive courses and seminars for practising engineers and academics throughout the year. These are not degree programmes but offer professional development certificates.
