• BS Degree in Data Science and Applications

• Option to exit earlier with a Foundation Level Certificate or Diploma(s) or BSc Degree

IIT Madras Online BSc Programme Structure

The program is split into four levels that have to be completed strictly in sequence:

1: Foundation Level (32 credits) - The Foundation level comprises courses in English, Statistics, Mathematics, Basics of Programming and Python. After the completion of the foundation level course, candidates can either exit the programme with a Foundational Certificate or proceed to the Diploma level

2: Diploma Level (Programming: 27 credits + Data Science: 27 credits) - The Diploma level comprises of courses in two sections namely Programming and Data Science. Both the sections comprise of 5 courses, two projects and one skill enhancement course. After completing the Diploma level, candidates can exit the programme with a Diploma in Programming or Data Science or both. Else, candidates may decide to proceed to the BSc degree level.

3: BSc Degree Level (28 credits) - Candidates should have cleared the 8 courses at the Foundation level and the 12 courses as well as 4 projects at the Diploma level to be eligible to pursue the BSc degree level. After the successful completion of the BSc degree, candidates can either exit the programme with a BSc degree in Programming & Data Science or proceed to the BS degree level.

4: BS Degree Level (28 credits) - Candidates must have earned 114 credits and completed the BSc degree level to enter the BS degree level. After completing the BS Degree level, candidates will be able to exit the programme with a BS Degree in Data Science and Applications from IIT Madras.

Who can apply for online BSc at IIT Madras?

Students who have cleared their class 12 or equivalent examination in any academic field are eligible to enroll into the programme. Students who have appeared for their class 11 examination irrespective of stream can also apply for the course which they’ll be able to join once they pass their class 12 examination. It is expected that the aspiring candidates should have studied English and Mathematics in their class 10.

Note: Candidates who have qualified the JEE Advanced examination are not required to pay an application fee.
