Is 400 marks enough for a Government Medical College for the ST category?

A safe score for the ST category is around 430 plus, according to the recent years' cutoff for the government MBBS AIQ quota. However, the State Quote cut-offs are comparatively lower. For the AIQ quota, 400 marks as an ST student might be too low.

Going for Delhi, UP, and Rajasthan with a 400 score might get you nowhere, even with a state quota. That is why you must try a state quota for the North-Eastern states instead. As per the reactions of NEET 2026 aspirants on social media, this year's paper was on a much easier side, and hence, the candidates are worried that the cut-off will go up, resulting in the safe score going up too.

Realistically, you might have to achieve a score above 500 to have a good chance of being accepted into a government medical college for the ST category.

Which states have the lowest NEET 2026 cutoff for ST candidates?

North Eastern states, along with Chhattisgarh and Jammu and Kashmir, usually have a low cut-off score for the ST category. In these states, if you achieve 400 + marks, then you can get a government seat through the state quota. However, this year, since NEET is said to have a difficulty level between moderate and easy, the cut-off marks are expected to rise.

NEET ST Category Cutoff Marks 2026 might fluctuate between 137 and 108. The cut-off is influenced by a bunch of factors, including the difficulty level of the paper, which is said to be easy this year, which means the cut-off marks can go up.
