UPSC CSE Prelims Passing Marks 2023: The minimum marks that candidates need to secure in order to qualify the UPSC Prelims exam 2023, will be announced after the declaration of the final result. UPSC CSE 2023 includes 3 stages - Prelims, Mains followed by Interview round. The first phase of the UPSC CSE is the Preliminary Examination, which is a screening test that aims to select candidates for the Main exam. The marks scored in this round are not calculated for the final merit, however, it is necessary for students to qualify the exam. 

In the Prelims Exam, candidates have to write two papers, including General Studies I and CSAT (General Studies Paper-II). The CSAT is qualifying in nature and requires candidates to score 33% to qualify. On the other hand, the total qualifying marks of GS Paper-I (Preliminary) Exams will be determined by the Commission. The two, together, will decide the list of candidates that will participate in the Main exam.

Highlights of UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2023

  • UPSC CSE Prelims examination will include two papers of objective type. Candidates will have to answer the multiple-choice questions. The questions in sub-section (A) of Section II are marked for 400 marks.
  • In UPSC CSE Prelims, General Studies Paper-II will be a qualifying paper. Candidates will have to score a minimum of 33% marks to qualify the examination.

  • The question papers will be available both in English and Hindi. They will include multiple-choice questions, and candidates will get two hours duration to answer them all.
