December 1, 2022 0:32 PMHow to Get Admission in IIT after 12th Commerce and Arts: Colleges, Courses, Eligibility, Seats and FeesRight from its establishment in the year 1951, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has earned tremendous goodwill and has made itself more of a brand than just a mere institute. With an excellent placement record and a marvellous alumni network, IITs are rightly considered to be the premier engineering institutes in India.
Getting admission to one of these best engineering colleges in India is like a dream-come-true for every engineering aspirant and their struggle for this starts from the school level. Students looking forward to admission in these institutes have to appear for the JEE Mains and the JEE Advanced entrance examinations and once they clear these exams, they are further shortlisted for one of the Top Colleges of IIT in India on the basis of their ranks. But there is enough information already available about the Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Master of Technology (MTech) courses at IITs and this article does not go into that.
While IITs have been primarily set up for engineering courses, they have added their own Humanities and Social Sciences, and Management departments over the years and now students can take admission into Design, MA, and MBA programmes at IITs. This widening in the scope of education offered at IITs has, in turn, benefited students from the Commerce, Arts and Humanities streams, who can now look to India's most revered institutes for their higher education.
In this article, we explore some such IIT courses which can be pursued by Commerce, Arts or Humanities students.
Bachelor of Design (BDes) at IITs
Bachelor of Design (BDes) is a four-year undergraduate programme that teaches the fundamentals of design principles, images, photography etc. BDes programmes are designed to promote visualisation and creativity in an individual by promoting a candidate to ideate and, often, think unconventionally. It is one of the courses that can be pursued after 12th in Commerce or Humanities.
List of IITs Colleges offering BDes
While there are four* institutes accepting a BDes admission via UCEED, candidates from Commerce, Arts and Humanities background are eligible to apply for the following three.

BDes Admission at IITs
BDes admissions at IITs are done via the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). UCEED is a national-level design entry exam conducted by IIT Bombay. The exam covers the following subjects:
- Visualisation and Spatial Ability
- Observation and Design Sensitivity
- Analytical and Logical Reasoning
- Design Thinking and Problem Solving
- Language and Creativity
- Environmental and Social Awareness
BDes Eligibility Criteria at IITs
Candidates must ensure that they fulfil the following eligibility criteria for UCEED before they apply.
- The candidate must not be older than 24 years
- The candidate must have completed class 12th from a recognized board
- The candidate must have completed class 12th in the same year or previous year as the year of taking UCEED (i.e. if a candidate appears for UCEED in 2023, he/she should have qualified class 12th in 2022 or 2023).
BDes Seat Availability in IITs
Following is the BDes intake at IITs that accept students from November 25, 2022 0:31 PMIIT Fees for BTech 2023: Check Annual & Semester wise IIT Fee StructureIIT Fees is one of the most often discussed topics among students applying to IITs for various courses such as B.Tech, M.Tech, and Dual Degrees.
After qualifying JEE Advanced exam, the aspirants generally search for the B.Tech fee structure at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). However, there is still time in the JEE Advanced Exam Counselling, understanding the fee details of undergraduate courses at IITs can help you prepare funds in order to secure a seat at either one of the top institutes in India. Details about the IIT B.Tech fee structure will help the students to be aware of the total amount of fee they may be required to pay after grabbing a seat. Every year, an official detailed fee structure for B.Tech course is released by the authorities along with the seat matrix of IITs.
IITs will release the session fee structure for the IIT 2023–2024 batches. Candidates can look at the proposed IIT fees structure for further information. All the details pertaining to IIT B.Tech fees has been compiled in this article to help engineering aspirants get a fair idea of the funds that they will be required to invest for the four-year B.Tech course. IITs offer the best engineering courses in India. The course fees mentioned here are approximate and is subject to change as per the recommendations of the IIT council with respect to inflation.
IIT Per Semester Fees 2023
In several IITs, the number of seats for the UG programme is around 12,000. Every year, however, around 2.5 million candidates take the JEE advanced test in order to get admission to IITs. According to official HRD Ministry information, the previous year's fee structure will apply to the 2023 entrance session as well. There would be no increase in course fees at IITs. IIT fees are around 2.5 lakhs per year.
