IIT JAM Mathematics Chapter-Wise Weightage

IIT JAM Mathematics Syllabus 2023 covers a wide range of topics such as integral calculus, linear algebra, real variables, and so on. The conducting body has set and released the mathematics syllabus for IIT JAM 2023 based on graduation level topics. Candidates interested in the MSc in Mathematics given by IIT can download the IIT JAM Syllabus PDF for Mathematics provided below. Before delving into the syllabus in detail, the candidate should understand the structure of the paper and the marking scheme, as this will help them evaluate the syllabus and prepare accordingly. There are three sections, "A," "B," and "C," each with 60 MCQs worth 100 marks.

The IITs and IISc alternately administer the Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM), an examination for all of India. The IIT JAM results are used by prestigious institutions across the nation to determine admission to a variety of post-graduate programmes, including joint MSc-PhD and MSc-PhD dual degrees, MSc, M Sc (Tech), MS (Research), MSc-MTech Dual Degree, and MSc-PhD across multiple disciplines. The IIT JAM 2023 examination will be held on February 12, 2023. IIT Guwahati is the coordinating institute for IIT JAM 2023.

Candidates are trying hard because this is one of the most difficult exams to pass for PG admissions in pure sciences. As a result, in order to have a good chance of scoring well, preparation should begin as soon as possible.

IIT JAM Mathematics 2023 Syllabus: Important Chapters

To compete and easily achieve a high score in the entrance exam, the candidate will need to cover all the IIT JAM Important topics from each section of the syllabus. The IIT JAM's detailed mathematics course syllabus is listed in the table below.

Important Mathematics Chapters

Sequences and Series of Real Numbers

  • Real number sequences, sequence convergence, bounded and monotone sequences, and convergence criteria for real number sequences are all topics covered in this topic. Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem, Cauchy sequences, and subsequences are additional considerations
  • Additionally, there are series of real numbers, absolute convergence, tests for series of positive terms that include comparison tests, ratio tests, root tests, and Leibniz tests for alternating series convergence, among others

Differential Equations

  • Ordinary differential equations of the first order of the form y'=f (x,y), Bernoulli's equation, exact differential equations, integrating factor, orthogonal trajectories, and homogeneous differential equations are all covered in this section
  • There are also variable separable equations and linear differential equations with constant coefficients that are only for second order. There is also the method of parameter variation, the Cauchy-Euler equation

Integral Calculus

  • This section contains information on Integration, which is defined as the inverse process of differentiation, as well as definite integrals and all the properties associated with the fundamental theorem of calculus
  • Aside from that, there are double and triple integrals, information on changing the order of integration, the process of calculating surface areas and volumes using double integrals, and calculating volumes using triple integrals

Linear Algebra

  • Finite dimensional vector spaces, linear independence of vectors, their basis and dimension, linear transformations, information on matrix representation, range space with null space, and the rank-nullity theorem are all topics covered in this section. Inverse and rank of a matrix, determinant, and all systems of solutions to linear equations are also covered
  • On the other hand, consistency conditions are included in this section along with eigenvalues, eigenvectors for matrices, the Cayley-Hamilton theorem, etc
