CEED & UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy 2026: CEED & UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy 2026: Imagine a scenario where you and another candidate receive exactly the same score in the CEED or UCEED examination. How is the final merit determined in such cases? To handle situations like this, IIT Bombay has introduced the CEED & UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy 2026. The institute follows specific criteria to distinguish between candidates with identical scores and ensure a fair, tie-free merit process. If you are getting ready to take the upcoming CEED or UCEED 2026 entrance exams, you must soon be waiting with bated breath for the results. Until then, you must familiarise yourself with the CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy 2026 by IIT Bombay, because ties often decide the ranks when students score the same marks. The institute has set the tie-breaker policy for both exams as it manages both.

For UCEED 2026 , if several students have the same rank, priority is given to those who have achieved a higher score in Part B. For CEED 2026 , only the passed students of Part B are assigned a merit rank. This ranking policy comes into the picture at the counselling time when ranks are finalised. Both exams are categorised into two halves called Part A and Part B, where both portions would be added to contribute to the final score. Knowing the marks distribution of both portions would be necessary, as it serves the merit list directly. For more details about the CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy 2026, you can read the full article below.

UCEED Tie-Breaker Policy 2026

In cases where the total UCEED score of two or more candidates is the same, to determine the rank, there is a tie-breaker policy. This ranking will help candidates get admission into the desired college. Here's how the policy works:

  • In case the candidate has a higher score in Part B, he/she gets the higher rank.

  • If the tie persists, then the candidate who has a better score in Section 2 of Part A will be ranked above the other one.

  • If both the above fail to break the tie, then the candidate who has obtained a better score in Section 1 of Part A will be ranked more superiorly than the other one.

  • If the above methods also fail and the tie persists, then both candidates shall share the same rank.

Note: The candidates who qualify for the entrance exam will be ranked according to their aggregate scores in Part A and Part B of the UCEED exam.

CEED Tie-Breaker Policy 2026

The ranking of candidates will strictly be based on their performance in Part A of the CEED 2026 exam. In case a candidate does not deliver adequate performance in this part, then that candidate would not receive any rank. Those candidates qualifying for Part B shall be considered for the CEED merit list 2026.

The CEED Tie-breaker policy 2026 will come into play in case of a tie where candidates have acquired identical marks on the total. The merit list will be prepared to include the scores of part A and part B. Candidates qualified in the drawing exam will be offered seats during the counselling process for CEED 2026. If seats remain unfilled during the last counselling round, then students on the waitlist will be offered admission to the seats.

FAQs

How will the CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy affect my rank in 2026?

The CEED & CEED tie-breaker policy will only come into play if your total score matches exactly with another candidate's score.
- If your score is higher in the tie-breaker sections (Part B, Section 2 or Section 1 of Part A) compared to someone with the same total score, you stand a chance to secure a better rank.
- However, if your score falls behind in the tie-breaker sections, you might end up with a slightly lower rank compared to someone with the same total score. This might not heavily impact your chances unless the competition is exceedingly tough.
- If your total score doesn't match anyone else's, the tie-breaker policy will not affect your rank at all.

How important is the tie-breaker policy for securing a seat in a design college?

The tie-breaker in UCEED & CEED is important when scores are neck and neck. It comes into play only when candidates have identical scores, playing a significant role in determining their ranks. This ranking, in turn, impacts seat availability, especially in highly competitive scenarios.

Does the CEED & UCEED tie-breaker policy consider the number of attempted questions?

No, the tie-breaker policy for CEED & UCEED does not take into account the number of questions attempted. Instead, it concentrates on the marks obtained in various sections of the examination.

Which section/part of CEED & UCEED is considered first for breaking a tie?

In the CEED & UCEED 2026 exams, the Drawing Test (Part B) takes priority in resolving tied total marks. If the scores in Part B are equal, the examination authorities will then consider Section 2 of Part A, followed by Section 1 of Part A.

What happens if two candidates have the same total marks in CEED/UCEED 2026?

In case two candidates participating in CEED/UCEED 2026 secure the same total score, a tie-breaker policy comes into play to determine their ranking:

- Part B Marks: The candidate who scores higher in Part B (Drawing Test) is given the superior rank.
- Section 2 of Part A: If the scores in Part B are equal, the candidate with higher marks in Section 2 of Part A is ranked higher.
- Section 1 of Part A: Lastly, if both the Part B and Section 2 scores are identical, the candidate with higher marks in Section 1 of Part A secures the better rank.
- Same Rank: Should all sections yield identical scores, both candidates are awarded the same rank.

How is the UCEED tiebreaker decided?

The UCEED tiebreaker is decided by the highest score of the candidate in Part B. If this doesn’t break the tie, then the highest score in Section 2 of Part A is considered. After even this, if the score remains the same, the Section 1 of Part A marks become the deciding score. However, if the tie remains, both candidates will be given the same merit rank.

What happens after qualifying CEED exam?

Students who qualify for the CEED exam become eligible to apply and take admission across different design courses at IIT and other institutes. However, a valid CEED score is not the confirmation of admission to the candidate's desired institute.

Can I get into IIT with UCEED?

Yes, candidates can get into undergraduate B.Des courses available at different IIT campuses such as Delhi, Bombay, and Guwahati through UCEED scores. Apart from IIT candidates can also take admission in other institutes via the scores of this entrance.

How is the CEED tiebreaker decided?

The CEED tiebreaker is effective when two candidates get the same marks. In this entrance exam, candidates who qualify for Part A will be awarded merit rank and the ones qualifying the Part B will be listed in the final merit list.

Who decides the CEED and UCEED tiebreaker policy?

The CEED and UCEED tiebreaker policy is decided by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay to break the tie of marks between two candidates. Candidates must understand the tie-breaker policy to determine their merit rank.

LPU is best if you want to study design through flexible learning. Between a general B.Design correspondence course and distance learning at LPU, the LPU option is better because it offers structured online classes, digital resources, expert faculty support, and industry-oriented assignments. LPU focuses on practical learning even in distance mode, helping students build design skills through projects, software training, and regular evaluations. The university’s recognition, curriculum quality, and student support make its distance learning a more reliable and career-focused choice.

Yes, candidates are allowed to use a pen and blank sheets of paper for rough work during the LPUNEST online proctored exam. The sheets must be completely blank before the test begins, and the proctor may request a webcam check of these sheets at any point. This ensures exam integrity while still giving students the flexibility to do necessary calculations.
