Top NID Colleges

The National Institute of Design, NID is considered to be one of the most accomplished institutes in the field of design-related education and research. Candidates with a flair for design apply for NID colleges because it has the potential of giving a great kick start to the student’s career. NID has the best three institutes in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Bangalore. The other NID colleges are NID Jorhat (Assam), NID Kurukshetra (Haryana), NID Bhopal, and NID Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh).

The student needs to clear the NID entrance exam in order to get admission in one of the colleges. The NID colleges in India offer courses like M.Des and B.Des. Apart from that, NIDs also offered a Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) until now but the course of GDPD has been discontinued from the academic session of 2020-21. All GDPD seats of NIDs have been converted to B.Des seats now.

NID Ahmedabad

NID Ahmedabad was established in 1961 and it is one of the leading fashion institutes of the country. Students have to appear for the NID entrance exam in order to get admission to the college. The institute offers both, undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It has around 15 courses across the 2 streams. The NID Ahmedabad has an active placement cell that invites the leading textile and fashion companies like Myntra and Bharat Silks. The institute offers a range of scholarships to deserving or underprivileged students.

NID Gandhinagar

NID Gandhinagar was founded in the year 2004 and is situated in the state of Gujarat. The college enrols students for B.Des. and M.Des. courses. It offers 7 courses in 3 different streams. A candidate needs to qualify the NID entrance exam to get admission in the NID Gandhinagar college. The college invites industries annually and organizes a meeting ground where the companies can recognize the desirable candidate and proceed with the process of recruitment.

NID Bangalore

NID Bangalore is also considered as one of the main NID institutes along with NID Ahmedabad and NID Gandhinagar. Established in 2006, the NID college offers 5 different courses across 1 stream. M.Des. is a widely popular course in the institute. The dedicated placement cell of the college provides contact between the student and the recruitment firm. Through the entrance exam of NID, a candidate can seek admission in the college and lock the chances of a bright future.

Eligibility Criteria for NID Colleges

In order to be a part of any prestigious National Institute of Design, a student has to make sure that all the eligibility criteria for NID are being met. Mentioned below are the eligibility criteria according to the courses that a candidate needs to keep in mind before applying to any NID college in India.

NID B.Des Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have qualified the higher secondary (10+2) examination in any stream from any recognised board can apply for the undergraduate course.

  • If any candidate has not appeared for the 10+2 examination before the date of admission, he/she is not eligible for the admission and can not apply for it.

  • The upper age limit is 20 years as on 30th June 2022 for the general category and 23 years for OBC, SC and ST. Also, for PWD the upper age limit goes to 25th years.

  • The lower age limit for the general candidate is that a candidate should be born on or after 1st July 2001. For OBC, SC and ST, the candidates need to born on or before 1st July 1999. A PWD candidate who was born on or after 1st July 1997 is also eligible for the application.

NID M.Des. Eligibility Criteria

  • The minimum eligibility criteria for applying for M.Des. is a 4-year degree or a 3- year degree from any specialisation after qualifying the higher secondary (10+2) examination.

  • A candidate with a full-time diploma of minimum 4-year long duration in the field of fine arts/design/applied arts/architecture after qualifying the class 12 examination is also eligible to apply for M.des. Course. Either a bachelor’s degree or a diploma is required before applying for the postgraduate programme from NID college.

  • The upper age limit for a general candidate is 30 years as of 30th June 2022. Also, he should be born on or after 1st July 1992. For OBC, SC, and ST candidates the upper limit is 33 years as on 30th June 2022 and for PWD the upper limit is 35 years as of 30th June 2022.
