Hotel Management and Travel and Tourism Management are two different streams of the tourism and hospitality education sector. However, candidates are often confused between the two. In this article, we compare the courses, colleges, fees, salary and scope of the two streams.

Hotel Management Vs Tourism and Travel Management

India is a country full of beautiful natural sights, astounding monuments, bustling bazaars, spicy and lip-smacking food and simple, friendly people. It is a country where proper hospitality and care of guests has been defined as one of the most important responsibilities of any host. The surprising variety of climate, culture, colours and landscape in India make travelling in the country an interesting experience not only for a foreign tourist but also for her own citizens. Which is why tourism is one of the most important and potentially rewarding sectors for India.

As per the India Tourism Statistics 2019, which are published by the Ministry of Tourism, more than 10.5 million foreign tourists visited India in 2018. The estimated earnings from these tourists were upwards of US $25.5 billion (more than Rs. 1,90,000 cr). And still, there is a high scope and expectations for the growth and development of tourism in India.

This is why hospitality and tourism is one of the most popular sectors of higher education in the country. Students have the option to choose from a number of hospitality and tourism courses after class 12th. The number of hotel management colleges in India is also quite high. Plus, a large number of Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) have been established in the country under the direct purview of the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) to increase the quality of research as well as the existing course curriculum in the field of hospitality and hotel management in India.
