Exam Difficulty Level in Each Shift

• If the exam difficulty level remains moderately easy like Day 1, the overall safe score will be higher. However, if the exam shift of Day 2 is moderate to tough, the safe score will significantly fall.

• The level of difficulty in each exam shift varies from one another. This is why the impact of each exam shift reflects differently on the safe score target.

Raw Score Normalisation

• The NTA uses the normalisation process, which means that a lower raw score in a difficult shift can yield the same percentile as a high score in an easy shift.

• Similarly, in an easy exam shift, even a 10-15 mark drop can drastically affect your overall percentile, significantly affecting your "safe" score percentile.

Exam Analysis for Each Subject

• If the Maths section is very tough and lengthy in one exam shift, the overall "safe" score for the entire paper will drop, regardless of the exam shift's difficulty level.

• Similarly, if the Chemistry and Physics sections feature more direct and textbook-based questions, the “safe” score will rise up significantly for that particular exam shift.

Trends in Past Years for Shift-wise Exam Difficulty Level

• The past years’ trends in the day-wise and shift-wise exam difficulty levels also influence the “safe” score target for students.

• If the trends show a decreasing safe score target over the past few years, the current session may follow a similar pattern. If the graph is inconsistent, the safe score target depends on the current session’s exam analysis.
