During the IIT Bombay Final placements 2020, the Institute saw the participation of various international companies who had selected the students with impressive packages. Domestic companies and domestic placements at IIT Bombay have also offered the students with notable packages and offers. At the domestic level, companies such as Google, Qualcomm and Goldman Sachs are among the top recruiters at Institute for 2020.
However, due to unavoidable circumstances, certain PSUs and domestic companies, especially in the automotive industry have stepped down from the recruitment process.
With the conclusion of the placement drive at the Institute, here are some of the highlights of IIT Bombay placements 2020.
This year, students have been offered impressive packages as well as positions at some of the top organizations in the industry. Companies have been recruiting the students from IITs for various job profiles.
There had been a total of 1,172 offers that have been accepted by the students, out of the 1,319 total offers made during the 2020 placements at IIT Bombay, which also include Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs).
This year’s placement offers had been made by 265 organizations and companies both from India and abroad.
The highest package, this year, had been offered for an international position with a package of ?1.17 LPA or $1,64,000 per year.
There has been a 75% increase in the number of placement offers that had made this year to the students.
The Highest Domestic package that has been offered to a student lies around 62.28 LPA.
Sources have stated that the number of offers had been for the students from the field of Engineering and Technology. Among the companies that had recruited the students from the institute include 2 PSUs, which offered a total of 9 offers.
Among the total number of offers made to the students, there were a total of 156 international offers with countries like the USA, UAE, Hong Kong, and many more. Many students had also received various pre-placement offers from companies that had been impressed by their work during the internships.
This year, the placement cell at IIT Bombay decided to conduct a common test, i.e. Placement Common Aptitude Test (PCAT). IIT Bombay conducted the common test to replace the company tests that are conducted to test the aptitude of the students. Almost 50 companies decided to recruit the students based on the aptitude test conducted by the institute, instead of their own, which improved the credibility of the test.
IIT Bombay Phase 1 placements 2018-19 is nearing its completion. Until December 19, 2018, 1,270 jobs were offered by various companies out of which students accepted 1,122 offers. A total number of 89 international offers were made to IIT Bombay students in the first phase placements 2018-19. Compared to the previous year, there has been a significant rise in the number of international offers. Popular companies from South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Netherlands and Japan made international offers to IIT Bombay students this year.
This year, the average salary offered was Rs. 17.75 lakh which is highest than the last year. So far, 70% of IIT Bombay students secured jobs in the Phase 1 placements.
Microsoft offered the highest salary package of Rs. 1.5 crore per annum at IIT Bombay this year. Samsung emerged as the other top recruiter with 27 offers. As far as sector-wise placements concerned, engineering and technology emerged as the top recruiter at IIT Bombay placements 2018-19. IT/ software sectors are other major recruiters that offered an average salary package of Rs. 21 lakh per annum.
Apart from the above, three PSUs recruited 13 students this year. More companies are expected to take part in the second phase placements of IIT Bombay.
Placements at IIT Bombay for the academic session 2018-19 have commenced on a grand note. The Phase 1 placements, which began on December 01, 2018, witnessed the participation of reputed companies across the globe. One of the major highlights of IIT Bombay Phase 1(Day 1) placements was the job offer made by Microsoft, and the annual package offered was Rs.1.14 crore. So far, this is the highest package offered by any company at IITs this year.
On Day 1of IIT Bombay placements, 21 companies visited the campus to hire students. As far as domestic roles concerned, the highest number of offers were made by Microsoft, Qualcomm, BCG, and Strategy &Carin.

Among the above, NEC Japan dominated the placements with annual pay of 458,300 Yen (Rs.28 lakh). Among the domestic firms, Blackstone made the highest offer of Rs. 45 lakh per annum. Worldquant was one of the top recruiters that offered an annual salary of Rs.42.87 lakh per annum.

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-Bombay) completed its first phase of placement process on December 1, 2017. High salary packages were rolled out for students compared to previous years. The placement increased by roughly 10%. A total of 300 students have secured jobs out of a total of 1600 students who had registered for IIT Bombay placements.
Highlights of the placement drive:
Tech giant, Microsoft, offered the highest package at IIT Bombay so far with an annual salary of Rs. 1.39 crore.
Uber also offered lucrative packages with highest at Rs. 99.87 lakh per annum.
A total number of 250 companies have registered for the first phase of campus placements.
Blackstone offered the highest package worth Rs. 45 lakh per annum.
International packages also increased by 20% this placement season. 47 students from IIT Bombay were offered international posts within the first three days of the placement drive. Also, 60 students of the institute bagged offers from offshore companies. The number of Japanese firms participating in IIT Bombay placements has also increased. This year 15 Japanese companies are expected to participate including Murata, Yahoo Japan and NEC Japan.

Start-ups also offered attractive placement offers to the students. Students from IIT Bombay over 1,600 students from various postgraduate and undergraduate courses participated in the on-campus recruitment process.
Five companies were expected to offer job profile in the US (United States). Uber and Microsoft were lined up to offer attractive packages. Apart from firms from the US, 15 Japanese companies will also visit IIT Bombay during the first phase placement process. A few companies from Europe and Singapore are also expected.
IIT Bombay placement successfully in which IT (Information Technology) sector made the highest number of PPOs (Pre-Placement Offers) to students. 137 companies made PPOs to students at the end of the summer internship. 37 offers were rolled out by IT sector firms. Secondly, companies from engineering and technology sector made 32 offers. IT and engineering & technology sectors stood as top recruiters at IIT Bombay this year.

Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics are the most sought-after domains this year. Students with expertise in these two fields will get excellent placement offers with attractive packages.
IIT Bombay successfully completed its placement season for the academic session 2016-17 on June 30, 2017. According to the placement statistics of IIT Bombay companies recruited students across all profiles including software, analytics, consulting, research & development, core engineering and others. A total of 1,114 jobs were offered. The placement season data clearly indicates the demand of IIT Bombay graduates among the top recruiters in various segments of the economy.
Total 305 students took part in the IIT-B placements. The average salary offered to students stood at Rs. 11.41 lakhs per annum. A total of 118 R&D jobs were offered by about 32 organisations. Thus Companies, are striving to create high-end services and products for which they require professionals with a good technological acumen. The 2016-17 placement season also witnessed 67 international offers from various companies and 59 pre-placement offers (PPOs) that were accepted by the students.
Internships have played a significant role during the placements 2016-17. About 650 organisations offered a total of 1,107 internship opportunities which consisted of international organisations that showed a keen interest in IIT Bombay students.
The placement season for the current academic session of 2017-18 has also begun in July 2017. IIT Bombay has been trying its best to invite more companies for campus drives.110 students have bagged PPOs. Officially, the first phase of campus recruitment for this batch will begin from December 1, 2017.
