Tamil Nadu BE/BTech admissions are done via the TNEA counselling process. The TNEA 2024 counselling will be done in stages, starting from online registration and certificate verification to the release of the TNEA random number and rank list, choice filling, and seat allotment.
 

TNEA Counselling

TNEA Counselling 2024 - DTE has commenced the TNEA 2024 counselling registration on May 6, 2024. In Tamil Nadu, admission to BE/ BTech (Bachelor of Technology) courses is conducted through the online counselling process known as TNEA. There is no state-level entrance exam for admission in Tamil Nadu. The counselling rounds involve steps like registration, certificate verifications, publication of the rank list., choice filling, seat allotment, confirmation of allotment, reporting to the college/TFC, and payment of fees based on their confirmation.

Candidates who have passed or are appearing in the 10+2 exams can apply for TNEA counselling. The TNEA 2024 Registration & Application formfill-up process will be conducted till June 6, 2024. The admission will be based on the candidates' marks in the relevant subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. These marks will be reduced to a maximum of 200 (Maths - 100, Physics - 50, Chemistry - 50). TNEA Counselling Process 2024

The counselling process of TNEA is divided into various stages, and the candidates must complete the required process in all the stages to be eligible for the seat allotment. The stages involved in TNEA counselling 2024 are as follows -

Stage 1 - Registration

The first stage in the counselling process of TNEA is registration. The candidates will have to complete the primary registration to be eligible for the counselling and seat allotment process. All the details pertaining to the registration process for TNEA 2024 have been explained in the article below. Please click on the link above for details.

The candidates must note that without registration, it is not possible to participate in the counselling process and seat allotment of TNEA.

Stage 2 - Certificate Verification

The second stage in the counselling process of TNEA is certificate verification. Unlike in 2021, the certificate verification process may be conducted offline in 2024.

Documents to be Produced for TNEA Certificate Verification 2024

The following documents must be produced for the TNEA certificate verification -

Stage 3 - Publication of Merit/ Rank List

The most important stage in the counselling process of TNEA is the publication of the merit list. The candidates must note that the merit list/ rank list is prepared based on marks obtained in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.

How to Check TNEA Merit/ Rank List?

The candidates must note that the TNEA 2024 rank list will be published on July 10, 2024, by TNEA. The candidates can visit the official website, i.e., www.tneaonline.in to check the rank list by logging in using their username and password.

Only the candidates who feature in the rank list of TNEA will be eligible for further rounds of the counselling process. If the candidates find any discrepancy in the merit or rank list published by DTE, they can object. Such candidates need to contact the Office of the Secretary - TNEA, Directorate of Technical Education (Chennai).

After the publication of the merit list, the candidates will have one week to raise objections.

Stage 4 - Initial Payment

An official schedule for payment, choice filling and seat allotment will be published after the confirmation of the merit list. As per the schedule, the candidates will have to complete the initial payment. The detailed process for the same can be checked below.

What is TNEA Initial Payment?

The candidates will have to deposit a precautionary amount to participate in the choice filling. If the candidates do not get a seat in any of the four rounds of counselling, their payment will be refunded. The fee details are as follows -

How to Pay TNEA Initial Fee?

There are two methods to complete the initial fee payment. The candidates can either pay the fee through the online payment gateway through the official website or by DD (Demand Draft).

Online Fee Payment

The candidates planning to pay the fee online will have to follow the below guidelines -

Step 1

The candidates will have to log in on the official website by using their e-mail ID and password.

Step 2

The personal details of the candidates will be displayed on the screen. Please crosscheck these details.

Step 3

After checking the personal details, click on ‘Next’

Step 4

You will be Payment Gateway 1, 2, 3, 4 on the screen. Click on any option to complete the payment.

Step 5

An E-Receipt will be displayed on the screen confirming the fee payment.

Offline Fee Payment

For offline fee payment, the candidates will have to follow the below guidelines -

Step 1

The candidates will have to draw a DD (Demand Draft) of Rs. 5000/ 1000 in favour of ‘The Secretary, TNEA’ payable at Chennai.

Step 2

The candidates will have to visit the Facilitation Centre.

Step 3

Submit the DD at the Facilitation Centre and get the confirmation receipt from the authority.

TNEA Choice Filling 2024

The next stage in the TNEA counselling process is choice filling. The candidates will have to exercise his/ her choices, i.e., he/ she should select the list of colleges in which they are aspiring for admission. The detailed process for the same can be checked below.

Step 1

The candidates will have to log in on the official website of TNEA.

Step 2

Click on the option that indicates ‘Add Choices’

Step 3

You will a list of colleges & courses along with their location and the total number of seats. Click on ‘Add’ if you want to choose any college.

Step 4

You can also select the district, branch through the dropbox on the screen. You can also search the college name in the search section and add the same as preference.

Step 5

Now, you can see all your choices under ‘My Choices’ section. You can change/ shuffle the choices (if required.

How to Choose the Relevant Choices in TNEA Counselling?

The candidates must be smart while filling choices in TNEA counselling 2024. The candidates must consider the following factors before filling choices -

Stage 6 - Choice Locking

The next stage is Choice Locking. The candidates will have to lock his/ her choice once the filling is completed. The candidates are advised to crosscheck the filled choices before locking the same. The candidates can follow the steps mentioned below to lock the choices -

Step 1

First, the candidates need to click on My Choices and crosscheck the filled preferences

Step 2

Click on ‘Next’

Step 3

Tick the box that says ‘I have completed adding my preferential choices and hence lock my choices’.

Step 4

You will receive an OTP on your mobile via SMS

Step 5

Enter the OTP and click on ‘Lock Choices’.

Once the choices are locked, the candidates will not be allowed to edit the same. If the candidates do not receive the OTP, click on the ‘Resend OTP’ option. It is advisable to wait for at least two minutes for the OTP.

Stage 7 - Tentative Seat Allotment

Based on choices filled by the candidates, tentative seat allotment is published. The seat allotment will be made as per the following three factors -

  • The first choice in the preference list will be allocated
  • If the first choice is not allocated, the lower choice is allocated as per the community and rank of the candidates
  • If seat allotment is not possible as per the above two factors, the choice that is not filled by the candidates in the preference list will be allocated based on rank and community.

Stage 8 - Confirmation of Tentative Seat Allotment

After checking the seat allotment, the candidates will see three options -

Option 1

I Accept and Confirm the Choice Allot to me

Candidates choosing this option can accept the allotment and join the college/ wait for a better allotment in the next round. The allotted seat will remain until the candidates get a better allotment. This option is only for those candidates who have been allotted seats as per lower preference/ choice.

Option 2

I decline the current seat allotment and proceed to the next round.

Candidates choosing this choice will have no right on the seat allotted in the respective round and he/ she can participate in the next round for better seat allotment.

Option 3

I decline the current allotment and quit counselling

Candidates choosing this option will not be eligible for the further rounds of the TNEA counselling process.

After choosing any of the above options, the candidates will have to click on ‘Submit’ and ‘Confirm’.

Stage 9 - Final Seat Allotment

Once the candidates confirm the tentative seat allotment, the final seat allotment of TNEA will be published on the official website. The candidates will have to download the seat allotment order. It will have the details such as the Candidate’s Name, Rank, Overall/ Community Rank, College Name and Branch Name. Take the printout of the seat allotment order.

Stage 10 - Reporting

Reporting is the last stage in the counselling process of TNEA. The candidates who have been allotted admission through TNEA counselling will have to report to the respective college within the specified date. The candidates will have to carry the TNEA seat allotment order and the list of documents specified on the allotment order. Candidates who fail to report within the specified date must note that his/ her admission will stand cancelled.
