JIS University encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities such as cultural programmes, music, dance, debates, and other competitions like as photography and short filmmaking. All students from different streams can participate in extracurricular activities.
Debates, quizzes and talks: Debates, quizzes, talks are a regular and integral part of the University life and students are introduced to such practices from their very first year of study and to that end students are also encouraged to take part in such activities happening in other places as well. Such activities take place on a weekly, if not daily, basis in the University.
Annual Fest: Every year the Annual fest is organized where the students participate in different cultural programs like music and dance, fashion shows etc and it’s a musical extravaganza worth to participate for the students. Each year Freshers’ Welcome is also organised for the new students as the new session begins where students actively take part in cultural programs and various competitions.
Drama and Photography Clubs: These two clubs have been set up in the University with the sole aim and purpose of honing and encouraging the photography and drama skills of the students. The University actively encourages these skills in the students by organizing regular contests, exhibitions and shows of such drama and photography by the students.
Sports Club: The University also has an up and running sports club to encourage the students to take active part in sports and allied physical activities. This is so because the University firmly believes in the motto “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” and the University regularly organizes sports for the students. A cricket competition between the faculties and the students is an annual affair at the University.
Gymnasium: The University is also having a well equipped gymnasium within the campus with fitness and Exercise equipment so that students can participate in physical activity part from their day to day studies. Physical activity is good for the mental health of the students and regular exercise can also boost self-esteem and helps them to concentrate and feel better.
Every year, a lot of Co-curriculars are held at JIS University, Kolkata. Some of the inter and intra colleges events and JIS University Co-curriculars are listed below:
1. SKILLX: Every year, JIS University hosts a one-of-a-kind exhibition event to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students. This is a showcase showcasing JIS University undergraduate and post-graduate students' unique ideas. JIS University's SkillX initiative aims to provide young minds with innovative, ambitious, and creative skills and ideas. I Models and ideas ranging from Aerodynamics to Robotic Arms, Artificial Intelligence to Knowledge Management, Industrial Biotechnology to Waste Management, Sewage treatment to Drug Design, Solar Cell, Home automation to electronic circuit application, new product development to business ideas are displayed across campus in this Skill exposition by young and talented students.
2. National Service Scheme (NSS): The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a scheme designed by the Government of India to foster and nurture social and philanthropic skills among students by involving them actively in many aspects of society that require student engagement. JIS University has two self-funded NSS Units that are conducted under the able leadership of various staff members who routinely organize social and educational programmes in which students actively and happily engage.
3. Legal Aid Cell: JIS University's Legal Aid Cell is operated and supervised by the Department of Juridical Science, which hosts a variety of seminars and speeches on legal and social issues on a regular basis. The Cell routinely organizes legal assistance and awareness camps both on and off campus, and public participation is actively sought and assured at these events. This allows students to gain practical exposure with the intricacies of how India's judicial system works.
4. Entrepreneurship Development Cell: The Department of Management Studies is in charge of this cell. The major goal of this cell is to foster and hone the abilities of aspiring entrepreneurs among students, and to that end, it works tirelessly to find such talent among students and then provide them with whatever assistance is required to ensure that they are not held back by a lack of resources.
5. Start-up Cell and Innovation Club: These two initiatives are administered by the University as a whole with the goal of ensuring that students who want to start their own business or venture get support from the University. The University's Innovation Club is a place where various innovations and innovative ideas from diverse students are showcased and available to public inspection and consultation.
6. Science Club: As the name implies, the University's Science Club is dedicated solely to student scientific ideas and inventions. The Club's mission is to encourage students in their scientific endeavors while also showcasing and popularizing their scientific abilities. This Club encourages and supports scientific inventions from students of any discipline.
7. Industry-Institution Cell: As the name implies, this Cell's purpose is to ensure that the University's Industry-Institution interface occurs on a regular and effective basis. It symbolizes one of the University's goals, which is to provide students with an all-encompassing and all-round education that focuses not only on their theoretical skills but also on their practical expertise.
8. Industrial Tours: At JIS University, industrial tours are a regular occurrence to guarantee that students have first-hand experience with the actual application of the concepts they study in class. This is a necessary and significant component of the university's overall curriculum, and it is applied to all courses given at the institute across disciplines.
