About GPAT 2019

GPAT 2019 (short for Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test) will be conducted on 28th January, 2019. GPAT is a national-level entrance test, which will be organised by the National Testing Agency from 2019 onwards instead of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). Through this examination, candidates get admission in the postgraduate programmes in Pharmacy. GPAT 2019 registration will begin from 1st November 2018 and will carry on until 30th November 2018.

GPAT 2019 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must check GPAT 2019 eligibility criteria before applying for GPAT 2019. It is important to fulfill the eligibility criteria of GPAT 2019 before filling in the GPAT application form. The eligibility criteria include parameters such as age limit, educational qualifications, and nationality which have to be fulfilled. GPAT will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). The main criteria is a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. Form filling for GPAT 2019 has already begun from November 1, 2019, and the last date to apply for GPAT is November 30, 2019.

GPAT 2019 admit card will be issued only after the candidates have submitted their application form on time and fulfilled the eligibility criteria specified by NTA. The eligibility norms for appearing in GPAT 2019 is defined by NTA (National Testing Agency). Candidates should go through the norms before filling the online application form. Following is the GPAT 2019 eligibility criteria:


  • Candidate should be a citizen of India.

Age Criteria

  • There is no upper age limit for this examination.

Academic Qualification

  • Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, which means 4 years after 10+2, including lateral entry candidates.
  • Candidates in the final year of B. Pharmacy programme are also eligible to appear for GPAT
  • B. Tech in Pharmaceutical and fine chemical technology/any Equivalent examination candidates are not eligible to appear for GPAT examination.

GPAT Eligibility Criteria for Visually Challenged Candidates

Visually challenged candidates who opt for a reader have to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • The reader’s academic qualifications should be lower than that of the candidate.

  • He/she cannot be a family member of the candidate.

  • The reader must not be involved in the academic preparation for GPAT 2019.

  • The reader’s age must be less than 19 as on January 17, 2019.

GPAT Eligibility Criteria for PwD Candidates

The PwD categories for GPAT as defined by NTA are given below:

  • Visually impaired
  • Physically handicapped
  • Hearing impaired
  • Dumb

PwD candidates are given testing assistance and it depends on what the candidate has specified in the application form.

Visually impaired will be offered screen/font enlargement. They are also offered abacus (without the calculator). Screen magnification will be done by the test center whereas abacus will have to be arranged by the candidate.

Visually impaired as well as candidates who have cerebral palsy will be allowed to have a reader. This has to be arranged by the candidate.

Hearing impaired candidates will be allowed to have hearing aids, which must be arranged by the candidate.

GPAT 2019 Exam Pattern

GPAT 2019 exam pattern will help candidates get an idea about the kind of questions asked in the exam as well as what should be the GPAT preparation strategy. GPAT 2019 will take place on January 28, 2019. The exam will be held in a single session for about 3 hours and the candidates must know about the detailed syllabus of GPAT 2019 once they understand the exam pattern.

GPAT exam pattern is expected to remain the same even though from 2019 it will be conducted by NTA. The conducting body for 2018 was All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). GPAT 2019 score will be accepted by all AICTE approved universities, institutes, and colleges.  

GPAT 2019 is an online exam, which is organised once a year. The examination will comprise of 125 questions, and candidates will get 180 minutes to complete the exam. GPAT will have MCQs (Multiple Choice Type questions) related to various subjects such as Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Physical Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry among others.

A trial test will be available for the candidates so they get an idea of the online test.

At the test center, every candidate will be given a computer terminal and a scratch paper for calculations. After the exam, the candidate must leave the scratch paper at the desk. Rough work cannot be done on any other sheet/paper as that will not be allowed inside the room. No breaks will be given during the exam.

GPAT 2019 Marking Scheme

  • Every correct answer is awarded 4 marks. Thus, the total maximum possible score in GPAT 2019 is 500.
  • For every incorrect answer in GPAT, 1 mark is deducted.
  • Unanswered question or not attempting a question does not attract any negative marking in GPAT 2019.

GPAT 2018 Exam Analysis

GPAT is a popular exam for admission to best M.Pharm Colleges in India. Conducted by AICTE every year in the month of January, the online exam is a gateway for students to pursue higher education in the field of Pharmacy. Once the result is out, the admission rounds take place until the month of April and the academic sessions start in July-Aug. GPAT 2017 Exam Analysis

GPAT 2017 was conducted on 28th & 29th January 2018. Overall, the examination was easy as compared to the GPAT exam conducted in 2016. According to some students, 3 hours was sufficient for them to complete the paper and they even had spare time to review their answers. The questions asked in the paper were from various topics including Microbiology, Ceutics, Pharmaceutical Jurisprudance, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Medicinial Chemistry, Cognosy, Organic & Inorganic Chemistry, Cology & Pharmaceutical Management.

Section-wise Analysis of GPAT 2017

Pharma Ceutics: This section was quite simple. Out of the total 20 questions, around 12-14 turned out to be quite easy as they only required implementation of basic concepts. Around 15-17 attempts with 90% accuracy was considered good for this section.

Cognosy: With moderate difficulty level, this section had many direct questions. Out of the 19 questions, around 13-15 attempts with 90% accuracy was considered good.

Pharmaceutical Analysis: Rated as an easy section to attempt, it had a total of 13 questions. In this section, there were 3 Statement/Conclusion type questions. Also, there were single questions only and no set-based questions in this section. Out of the 13 questions, around 8-9 attempts with 90% accuracy was considered good.

Chemistry (Medicinal/Organic/Inorganic): The difficulty level of this section was easy-to-medium, with total number of 30 questions. Around 15-17 attempts with 85-90% accuracy was considered good.

Pharma Cology: There were around 15 questions in this section and the difficulty level was moderate. Around 9-11 attempts with 85% accuracy was considered good.

Pharmaceutical Jurisprudance/Pharmaceutical Management/Microbiology: This section had been rated as easy. Out of all 26 questions, around 6-8 attempts with 90% accuracy was considered good.

GPAT 2019 Participating Colleges

The Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) is conducted by the NTA (short for National Testing Agency) for admission to various pharmacy colleges across the country. Candidates who qualify in the entrance exam will become eligible to apply for admission to Master of Pharmacy (M.Phama) programmes offered at GPAT 2019 participating institutes/colleges. The participating colleges /institutes of GPAT 2019 are the colleges where the score of the entrance exam will be accepted and successful candidates will be considered for admission. The GPAT score is accepted by all AICTE-approved Institutions/University Departments/Constituent Colleges/Affiliated Colleges. There are more than 916 approved pharmacy colleges/institutions/universities in the country.

Candidates can check the GPAT 2019 post the examination. But before checking the cut-off, they must check the GPAT result  to see their score and rank. It is to be noted that candidates have to apply for the admissions separately and there is no common counselling conducted for GPAT 2019. GPAT 2019 Result

GPAT 2019 result will be declared on February 10 by NTA. Candidates can check the result online by entering their details. The qualifying status and scorecard will be available online for GPAT 2019. Candidates can also check their score by downloading the scorecard. And apart from the result, GPAT 2019 merit list will also be released in a PDF format. It will have the candidate’s name, roll number, rank and total score. The merit list is announced on the basis of a candidate’s score in GPAT.

GPAT 2019 score will be accepted by 800 participating pharmacy colleges. However, candidates will have to apply separately to the college of their choice from GPAT 2019 participating institutes. Every participating institute will release a GPAT 2019 cut-off score which candidates have to fulfill to take admission. The validity of GPAT score is 3 years from the date of publication.

How to Check GPAT 2019 Result

  • Log in to the official website of GPAT.
  • Click on the link “View Result” tab.
  • You will be redirected to a new page where you will be required to enter your login credentials such as your Registered Email ID and password.
  • Then, click on ‘Sign In’ tab.
  • You will get access to your GPAT 2019 Scorecard.
  • Download the GPAT 2019 Scorecard and take a print out for further admission process.

Note: While checking the result, candidates may face some discrepancies with the server related to the GPAT official website due to tremendous load on it. However, they will be able to easily download their result after 3-4 hours.

GPAT 2019 Counselling Process

GPAT 2019 counselling will commence tentatively on February 28, 2019. The applicants who qualify for the GPAT entrance exam will be further shortlisted for the GPAT counselling procedure. The candidate needs to carry a set of important documents to the counselling center and in case he/she fails to do so, his/her candidature will be cancelled and the candidate may be asked to quit GPAT 2019 counselling center. This will lead to the candidate losing his/her seat.

GPAT 2019 seat allotment is done on the basis of the announced merit list as well as the marks obtained in the examination.Details of GPAT counselling process, required documents etc are explained in detail below. There are 4 stages in the counselling process which are described below.

  • This is the first stage wherein candidates will have to check rank wise counselling dates. The dates will be available on the official website after the exam gets over.

GPAT 2019 Cut-off

NTA (short for National Testing Agency) will release the GPAT 2019 cut-off after the announcement of the GPAT 2019 Result in the month of February 2019. The cut-off for GPAT is basically the minimum marks, which a candidate must secure to be able to qualify the entrance exam. Candidates who are appearing for GPAT will be shortlisted on the basis of the cut-off marks, specified by the GPAT 2019 participating institutes. The cut-off will depend on multiple aspects such as the number of candidates, seats, marking scheme and the difficulty level.

The GPAT cut-off will be different for candidates belonging to different categories. Based on the GPAT cut-off, candidates can find out where all they can apply for admission. Candidates will become eligible to participate in the GPAT counselling process only if they qualify the entrance exam and meet the cut-off. Those who do not meet the cut-off will not be considered eligible for the further admission rounds.

GPAT 2019 Admit Card

The GPAT 2019 admit card will be issued by National Testing Agency (NTA) on 7th January. The GPAT admit card/hall ticket is usually released in online mode on the official website of GPAT. To download the admit card of GPAT, test-takers will have to enter their login credentials – Login ID and Password on the official website.

The GPAT 2019 entrance exam will be held on 28th January 2019, and it is mandatory for GPAT aspirants to carry their GPAT 2019 admit card and a photo ID proof to the exam center.

There is no provision for sending GPAT admit card/hall ticket via post or by any other offline means. However, the admit card of GPAT is also sent to the registered e-mail address of the candidates.

How to Apply for GPAT 2019

The Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) 2019 Registration Process will begin on 1st November 2018 and continue until 30th November 2018. GPAT will be organised by NTA (National Testing Agency) for admission to Postgraduate Pharmacy courses. GPAT score is accepted by AICTE recognised University Departments/Institutions/Constituent Colleges /Affiliated Colleges. 

The GPAT application form can be filled in online mode on the official website of NTA. Before you start the GPAT 2019 application process, please ensure you have the following things:

  • A system with a good Internet connection
  • Educational Details
  • A scanned photograph of white background and signature

Registering for GPAT is a three-step process as described below:

  • In Online mode, candidates can make the payment using Net Banking/Credit card/Debit card. Once the payment is successfully done, candidates will get a confirmation text message and email.
  • In Offline mode i.e. cash payment in SBI Bank, candidates have the option of paying the application fee by cash at any designated SBI Bank branch. Once the payment is successfully done, candidates will get a confirmation text message and email.

GPAT Conducting Body

The Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test, commonly known as GPAT, is a national level entrance examination organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA) as per the guidelines of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. This examination facilitates the institutions to select suitable Pharmacy graduates for admission to M.Pharm programmes. The GPAT score is accepted by all AICTE approved Institutions/University Departments/Constituent Colleges/Affiliated Colleges. Some scholarships and other financial assistance in the field of Pharmacy are also given on the basis of GPAT score.
