Question

Answer

I want to study in IIT, and with my rank, I can’t get admission in CSE even if I wait for three rounds of JoSAA counselling. But, CSE is my career aspiration. I still want to study in IIT, and can I choose B.Tech Mechanical?

This happens with most of the students. They may not get admission in the desired course. You will have three options then -

Option 1 - Choose the alternative course and study in IIT.

Option 2 - Withdraw from JoSAA counselling, and choose a top private college/ deemed university for B.Tech admission.

Option 3 - Target for admission in NIT instead of IITs. You can get admission in your desired course.

There is a B.Tech college in my town. Is it worth pursuing B.Tech CSE/ Mechanical from this college?

It depends on various conditions.

Condition 1: If the college has a good reputation in the region with excellent placement record, you can pick up this college.

Condition 2: If you want to take admission in a top private college located in nearby town or city, make sure that you are financially sound to manage hostel expenses.

Condition 3 - Check whether the college located in your nearby city offers transport facility. Most colleges do that. You can also rely on the public transport facility. You can travel on government buses with a student pass.

Condition 4 - If you think that you can’t get admission under state quota, try to get admission under management quota.

Why many B,Tech students have backlogs?

There are two kinds of students here. The first category students are those who complete their 12th from local schools with less English language skills. These students face difficulty in coping up with engineering concepts, which are taught in the English language. Such students may have backlogs in the first year. However, they can cope up in the second year.

When you join B.Tech, you should mentally prepare that you must work hard. If you lack this aspect, you will end up having backlogs.
