Common Mistakes to Avoid While Filling MAT 2026 Application Form

You can check the most common errors made by students while filling up their application form and also how you all can avoid them.

Common Mistakes

Description

How to Avoid

Entering Incorrect Personal Details

It is seen that many of you make errors in spelling your name, entering the wrong date of birth, or selecting an incorrect gender or category. These details are matched with official documents during verification, and discrepancies can create serious issues later.

Always refer to official documents such as your Class 10 certificate, Aadhaar card, or passport while filling in personal details. Avoid using nicknames or short forms. Double-check spellings and numbers before proceeding to the next step.

Incorrect Academic Information

Filling wrong marks, percentage, year of passing, or degree details is a common error. Some candidates also enter approximate marks instead of exact values.

Keep all your academic mark sheets ready before starting the application. Enter marks exactly as mentioned in your certificates. If your result is awaited, follow the instructions given in the form instead of guessing or entering false data.

Choosing the Wrong Exam Mode

MAT is conducted in CBT, PBT, and IBT modes, and it is quite common to sometimes select an exam mode without understanding its format or availability.

Read the official MAT 2026 notification carefully and understand the differences between CBT, PBT, and IBT. Choose the mode that best suits your preparation and availability. Once submitted, exam mode cannot usually be changed.

Selecting an Inappropriate Test City

Applicants often choose a test city far from their residence or select a city without checking availability, leading to travel inconvenience on exam day.

Select test cities that are easily accessible and realistic for you to reach on the exam date. Check the list of available test centres for your chosen exam mode before making a final selection.

Uploading Incorrect Photograph and Signature

Uploading blurred photos, selfies, or images not meeting the specified size and format is a very common error. Incorrect uploads may result in form rejection.

Upload a recent passport-size photograph with a clear background and a scanned signature as per the size, format, and resolution mentioned in the instructions. Preview uploaded images before final submission.

Ignoring Eligibility Criteria

Some candidates apply without meeting the basic eligibility requirements, such as minimum qualification or final-year status, which leads to cancellation at a later stage.

Carefully read the MAT 2026 eligibility criteria before filling the form. Ensure you meet all conditions regarding educational qualification and age before proceeding.

Errors During Fee Payment

Incomplete payment, double payment, or failure to save the transaction receipt can make the application incomplete or untraceable.

Use a stable internet connection while making the payment. Do not refresh or close the page during the transaction. After successful payment, download and save the payment receipt and confirmation page.

Missing Application Deadlines

Waiting until the last date to fill the application often results in server issues, incomplete submissions, or payment failures.

Apply well before the deadline to avoid last-minute stress. Early submission also gives you time to correct errors if the correction window is opened.

Not Reviewing the Application Form

Many candidates skip the preview option and submit the form without reviewing the entered details.

Use the preview section to carefully check every detail—personal, academic, exam mode, and test city. Make corrections immediately before final submission.

Not Saving the Confirmation Page

Candidates often forget to download or print the confirmation page after submission.

After successful submission, download and print the confirmation page. Keep both digital and printed copies safely for future reference, especially during admit card download and counselling.
