GATE 2026 Mechanical Engineering Daily Study Plan

A simple and practical study plan is important when the exam date is approaching. Below is a basic 60-day study structure, suitable for students who want to complete the GATE ME syllabus and revise properly:

  • Try to follow around 10 hours of study daily, aiming for around 600 hours in 60 days.

  • Using the Pomodoro technique makes long study hours easier because it breaks the session into smaller segments: 25 minutes of focused study followed by a 5-minute break. After completing four cycles, take a longer break of 15-20 minutes and include a short 5-minute meditation session to stay focused.

  • A balanced daily routine can look like this:

    • 2 hours for Engineering Mathematics (1.5 hours revision + formula review; 0.5 hour PYQs)

    • 3 hours for one difficult technical subject

    • 3 hours for one easier subject

    • 1 hour for PYQs again (helps with retention)

  • Tracking your hours in a simple journal can reduce time wastage and improve consistency.

  • Revision plays a major role in GATE scoring. Focus on short notes, one-page summaries, and formula sheets.

  • Since around 50-60% of GATE questions are repetitive or conceptually similar, solving PYQs becomes highly effective. Try completing 12-14 mock tests.

  • Always spend more time analysing your mock tests than just taking them. This is what actually improves accuracy over time.

  • Along with this, make sure you maintain 6-7 hours of sleep, preferably from 10 PM to 6 AM, as this supports concentration, memory, and stamina during long study days.
