How to Get Admission in M.Tech Courses at IITs, NITs Without GATE Score

Some of the best engineering and technical institutes in the country offer M.Tech programmes without GATE score. Candidates can apply either through sponsored seats, M.Tech entrance exams of respective universities or through graduation score.

It might come as a surprise to you that some of the best engineering colleges in India offer M.Tech programmes without GATE score. There are a list of IITs in India, NITs in India, and other central universities and state universities that invite M.Tech admissions either through sponsored seats or on the basis of their own entrance test for M.Tech programmes.

Working professionals who are looking forward to taking up M.Tech programmes can apply for these seats if they don’t get time to prepare for extremely competitive exams such as GATE. GATE 2019 exam was conducted in the 1st and 2nd week of February 2019.

Admission M.Tech Without GATE

Following are the options to take admission in a Master of Technology (M.Tech) programme without GATE score.

1. Sponsored Seats at IISs, IITs and NITs

IISc, IITs and NITs offer regular M.Tech seats to candidates who have been sponsored by their employers. These candidates don’t need to appear for the GATE entrance exam for admission in M.Tech programmes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have completed B.Tech or B.E. with the minimum qualifying marks (vary from institute to institute).
  • Candidates applying for M.Tech through sponsored seats must have worked for more than 2 years.
  • Candidates should have been granted 2-year study leave by their employers.
  • The employer must take the responsibility to provide financial support for the candidate throughout the 2-year course.
  • Some of the IITs and NITs may also conduct their own written test for admission to M.Tech programmes through sponsored seats.

2. M.Tech Entrance Exams for IIITs, Deemed Institutes and States

Some of the IIITs conduct their own entrance exams for admission in the M.Tech programme. If you want to cut down the competition and want better chances of selection as compared to admission through GATE, you can appear for these M.Tech entrance tests conducted by IIITs.

3. Admission to Central and State Universities

There are various central and state universities that admit students on the basis of GATE as well as their separate entrance exams. You will find that some of the central, as well as the state, universities reserve some M.Tech seats for admission through GATE and the remaining seats are filled on the basis of their own M.Tech entrance exams.

However, there are some universities that conduct admission only on the basis of their own M.Tech entrance test. Following are some universities where you can apply without GATE score by taking their exams.

4. Admission to Private Universities and Private Deemed Universities

If you are okay with spending some extra money on your education, you can also apply for private universities or private deemed universities. Admissions are done either on the basis of marks secured in graduation or on the basis of entrance exams conducted by the respective university.
