IIT Hyderabad M.Tech Admission Process through GATE 2020

IIT Hyderabad M.Tech admission process through GATE score changes every year. If the number of M.Tech applicants is more, IIT Hyderabad may conduct a separate written test and interview for the final admission offer. IIT Hyderabad shall shortlist the eligible candidates based on their score and performance in GATE exam. Only shortlisted candidates are eligible for the next round of selection process.

IIT Hyderabad M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

Apart from GATE qualified candidates, IIT Hyderabad offers M.Tech admission to IIT B.Tech graduates and sponsored candidates. The detailed M.Tech eligibility criteria for all categories are elaborated below.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE Qualified Candidates

  • Candidates with a valid GATE score can apply for M.Tech admission at IIT Hyderabad.
  • However, GATE qualifiers must have at least 60% of marks in B.Tech/ B.E to be considered for M.Tech admission at IIT Hyderabad.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT B.Tech Graduates

  • IIT B.Tech graduates can take direct admission in the M.Tech course at IIT Hyderabad without the requirement of GATE score.
  • IIT B.Tech graduates should have 8.00 CGPA out of 10 to be considered for the direct admission.

Eligibility Criteria for Sponsored Candidates

  • GATE score is desirable, but not essential for sponsored candidates.
  • Sponsored candidates will be considered for M.Tech admission only if they are sponsored by his/ her organization for a period of two years.
  • In most cases, candidates aspiring for M.Tech admission at IIT Hyderabad under sponsored category must have 60% marks in B.E/ B.Tech.

Application Process

How to Reach the Official M.Tech Admission Portal of IIT Hyderabad?

Candidates must visit the IIT Hyderabad, and then click on the option that indicates ‘Admissions’. Under the admissions tab, click on M.Tech, and the official M.Tech admission portal of IIT Hyderabad will open now.


After clicking on the online application form, the candidates will be directed to ‘Register’. The candidates must register by using their Mobile Number and E-Mail ID. The login details will be sent to the candidate’s e-mail or mobile.

IIT Hyderabad M.Tech Application Form Filling

After the successful registration on IIT Hyderabad M.Tech admission portal, the candidates must proceed with online application form filling for M.Tech courses. The candidates must enter all the details carefully.

Submit Application

The candidates can submit the application after uploading the prescribed documents. After the submission of application, take the printout of the same for future reference.

Application Fee Payment

After the successful completion of the above steps in the M.Tech application process, the candidates must pay the application fee of Rs. 300 (Rs. 150 for Reserved Category and Female candidates).

The candidates must e-mail the PDF copy of IIT Hyderabad M.Tech application form along with fee payment receipt to mtech_iit_graduates@iith.ac.in

The candidates must specify the name of the engineering department or discipline in the subject column of e-mail.
