How to Calculate KCET Rank with Board Marks
is a common question asked by candidates who have appeared for the KCET exam and are willing to take admission to the
Top KCET 2025 Participating Colleges in India
. KCET 2025 Rank is crucial in determining admission to UG courses in Karnataka. KCET ranks 2025 are calculated based on the candidate’s performance in both the
KCET 2025
exam and Class 12th exam scores. The marks calculation is divided equally between the KCET exam and Class 12; 50% weightage is provided to KCET exam scores and 50% is given to the marks scored in the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in Class 12th or equivalent exams. In this article, we have discussed how to calculate the KCET rank using board marks.

How to Calculate KCET 2025 Rank with Board Marks?
Check the steps below to get a detailed understanding of the procedure of calculating KCET rank 2025 with board marks -
Step 1. Have a Keen Understanding of KCET 2025 Marks Weightage
As per KEA guidelines, KCET marks are divided equally i.e. the marks are calculated using 50:50 weightage.
- 50% weightage is assigned to the KCET 2025 score.
- 50% weightage is given to the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) in Class 12 or equivalent board exams.
Step 2. Calculation of Normalised Board Exam Marks
Firstly, select the PCM subjects and extract the marks scored in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Calculate the percentage by adding the marks obtained in the three subjects and dividing the total maximum marks for PCM. Multiply the result by 100 to get the total percentage. For example:
- Marks in Physics: 85/100
- Marks in Chemistry: 90/100
- Marks in Mathematics: 80/100
Total Marks = 85 + 90 + 80 = 255/300
Percentage scored by the candidate in board is = (255/300) × 100 = 85%

Step 3. Calculation of Normalised KCET 2025 Score
To calculate the normalised KCET 2025 scores, add the marks obtained in the KCET 2025 for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Divide the total maximum marks scored in these subjects in KCET. Multiply the result by 100 to get the percentage. For example:
- Marks Obtained in KCET 2025 Physics: 40/60
- Marks Obtained in KCET 2025 Chemistry: 50/60
- Marks Obtained in KCET 2025 Mathematics: 45/60
Total KCET Marks = 40 + 50 + 45 = 135/180
Therefore the percentage scored is = (135/180) × 100 = 75%

Step 3. Calculation of Final KCET 2025 Score
To calculate the final KCET score, candidates should add the normalised board percentage and KCET percentage. There is a significant formula that is used to calculate KCET Rank with Board Marks is provided below.
Final Score = (Board Marks Equivalent / 2) + (KCET Marks Equivalent / 2)
Let us understand this through an example,
Suppose you have scored your Board Percentage as 85% and KCET Percentage as 75%. The Final Score will be (85 + 75) / 2 = 80%

What are the Factors Determining KCET Rank with Board Marks?
The factors determining KCET Rank with Board Marks have been provided below.
A. A higher score in the KCET exam is equal to a better rank which implies that if the candidate has scored higher marks in the final exam the ranks secured by them will also be higher.
B.If there is a tie it means two candidates have the same final score where the final criteria is used as mentioned below -
- KCET Marks in Mathematics.
- KCET Marks in Physics.
- KCET Marks in Chemistry.
- Age of the candidate (older candidate gets preference).

Important Points to Remember While Calculating KCET Rank with Board Marks
- Candidates who fail to appear for any subject in the KCET 2025 exam or have not secured qualifying marks in the board exam will not be considered for ranking.
- Ensure that the board marks provided to KEA are accurate and verified.
- The KCET rank is a combination of the board marks and KCET performance; preparation for both is equally important.

FAQs
To calculate the normalized KCET 2025 scores, first sum the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Divide this total by the maximum marks available in these subjects combined. Finally, multiply the result by 100 to convert it to a percentage. For example, if a student scores 40 out of 60 in Physics, 50 out of 60 in Chemistry, and 45 out of 60 in Mathematics, the calculation would be as follows: Total KCET Marks = 40 + 50 + 45 = 135 out of 180, leading to a percentage score of (135/180) × 100 = 75%.
To calculate the KCET rank 2025, follow these steps: First, understand that the score is determined through a 50:50 weightage system, where 50% comes from the KCET score and 50% from the Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). Begin by calculating the normalized board exam marks by adding the scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, dividing the total by the maximum marks, and multiplying by 100 to obtain the percentage. Next, calculate the normalized KCET score similarly by summing the marks obtained in these subjects during the KCET, dividing by the total maximum marks, and multiplying by 100. Finally, to determine the overall KCET score, add the normalized board percentage and KCET percentage, then divide by 2. For example, if the board percentage is 85% and the KCET percentage is 75%, the final score is (85 + 75) / 2 = 80%.
The total marks in PCM (inclusive of theory and practical) are considered for the board exam percentage required for KCET.
No, only Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are considered while calculating KCET Rank with board marks.
While you can estimate your KCET 2025 rank based on your score, the exact KCET 2025 rank depends on the overall performance of all candidates in the KCET exam 2025.
