JEE Advanced Attempt Limit: Two-Attempt Rule

The students are allowed to take the JEE Advanced twice in two consecutive years (as the exam is conducted once a year). For example, if a student has cleared their class 12th exam in 2024, then he/she is eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced (2024) and JEE Advanced 2025 examinations. The candidates who have qualified for the Intermediate with Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, along with being in the top 2,50,000 qualifiers of the JEE Main exam, are eligible to take the JEE Advanced exam for 2024 and 2025, respectively (if they have qualified for class 12th in 2024).

JEE Advanced Attempt Limit: Exception by the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of India has allowed the students who have qualified for their class 12th exam. However, the students need to fulfil the case provided below:

  • The students who have qualified for their class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths  in 2023, but the result for the board was released after June 28, 2023, are eligible to take the JEE Advanced 2025 exam
  • If the result for the particular student was withheld for any reason after the declaration of the result by the board, then he/she is not eligible to take the JEE Main exam.

How to Utilise the JEE Advanced Two Attempts Properly

Students can check the strategy provided below in pointers to know how to utilise the two attempts in the JEE Advanced exam properly:

  • Focus on JEE Main Exam: to appear for the JEE Advanced exam, students have to be in the 2,50,000 qualifiers of the JEE Main exam. Therefore, a student should primarily focus on the JEE Mains exam before preparing for the JEE Advanced.
  • Prepare for the JEE Advanced Exam from Class 11th : If a student is preparing for the JEE Advanced exam after qualifying for the JEE Main, then it is too late. Students should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam from class 11th.
  • Get Expert Help: While preparing for the JEE Advanced exam, a student should always seek help from mentors or experts to avoid wasting time by studying irrelevant topics that are not necessary for the exam.
  • Refer to previous year questions: After completing the syllabus for Main and Advanced, take previous years' questions and try to analyse topics and subject-wise weaknesses and strengths
  • Take the JEE Advanced Mock Test to analyse the level of preparation
