COMEDK 2026 Seat Matrix outlining detailed seat availability across categories will be published tentatively in July 2026. Around 26,000 seats are expected in total. Rank inflation is likely, meaning a score may yield a lower rank than in 2025.
COMEDK 2026 Seat Matrix and Category Trends

The COMEDK 2026 Seat Matrix will be published online at comedk.org. Through the seat matrix, aspirants learn about the availability of seats in various engineering colleges in different disciplines. The seat matrix will provide information about colleges, branches, seats, and categories during the COMEDK counselling. The document greatly helps aspirants to make an informed decision about their college and future career.

Change is the only constant about the COMEDK 2026 Seat Matrix, as new branches are added to the list every year, along with increases or decreases in seat intake and the introduction of new specialisations. Learn about the COMEDK 2026 Seat Matrix below.

COMEDK UG 2026 Seat Matrix: How Rank Inflation Impacts Branch Availability

Rank inflation is directly proportional to the quality of student participation, the number of students, and the paper's overall performance. It also alters the branch availability. If a larger number of students achieve the same number of marks, then the ranks will change even if there is a slight difference in their marks.

For the most sought-after branches like Computer Science, it will be quite difficult to secure a seat because of rank inflation. Usually, top engineering colleges close within the first 500 ranks, so if there is a rank inflation, then it will be quite difficult to secure a seat.

Wild rank inflation greatly affects the most crowded branches like computer science and anything related to AI and Technology; it has a more lenient effect on branches like mechanical and civil.

Will COMEDK 2026 ranks be higher than 2025 for the same score?

Rank inflation in COMEDK UG is expected to go up in 2026 based on the previous year's trends. There are different factors that influence the rank inflation, such as the difficulty level of the paper and the performance of the aspirants in that particular year. Since more and more aspirants are now performing well and getting higher marks because of the increased availability of resources, the same score will now have a lower rank than last year.

Below is the table depicting the rank expected for this year as compared to 2025:

How do HKR (Hyderabad-Karnataka Region) and General Merit ranks differ for EEE?

The main difference between HKR and GM ranks is the cutoff threshold and seat reservation. While GM or General Merit rank resembles Open category ranks for all students, HKR or Hyderabad-Karnataka Region rank is a specialized category rank for students from the 371(J) reservation districts, such as Yadgir, Raichur, and Kalaburagi.

Talking about the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) branch, HKR students are much more likely to secure a seat in a premier college even after scoring a low rank, whereas the cutoff for GM students remain high. Past years' admission trends suggest that EEE closing ranks in some of the top Bangalore colleges go up to 5,000 rank for General Merit, whereas for HKR students, the cutoffs are more flexible, ranging from 12,000 to 15,000. This gives local students upperhand despite having lower scores.

Around 8% of seats are reserved for HKR, so the HKR has a lower closing rank than General Merit. If you have secured a low score, you still have a chance to apply via the HKR Quota. You can easily apply to an engineering college, where it is quite difficult to get a seat through general merit.

The COMEDK 2026 Seat Matrix will be available by the second week of July 2026. You can make an informed decision about the college to target with the help of the seat matrix.

EEE at LPU is considered a decent option for students looking for both core electrical knowledge and exposure to industry-based learning. The curriculum includes practical labs, projects, and training related to automation, power systems, and emerging technologies. Placement opportunities are available in both core and non-core sectors, though outcomes usually depend on skills, internships, and academic performance. Many students also prepare for government exams or higher studies alongside placements because EEE is a broad field with multiple career paths.
