Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Assam is responsible for conducting B.Tech admission process for government engineering colleges in Assam. Private engineering colleges in Assam conduct their own admission process for B.Tech courses. Every year, DTE Assam conducts a state-level engineering entrance exam for B.Tech admissions in government engineering colleges across the state. There is no centralised or online counselling process for B.Tech admission in government engineering colleges of Assam. The admission authority conducts an offline admission process for these colleges, and students must be aware of the counselling process for the same. About Assam B.Tech Admissions 2019

DTE Assam will begin the admission process for B.Tech courses in government engineering colleges by inviting the applications for the state-level engineering entrance exam. The entrance test for engineering admissions in Assam will be conducted in June 2019, and the counselling process for B.Tech courses in government engineering colleges will begin in July 2019. Students willing to join private engineering colleges across the state can contact the respective colleges directly for admission. Private engineering colleges in Assam have their own admission rules for B.Tech admissions.

Note: In this article, the admission process for Assam government colleges through Assam CEE is detailed. Admission process for various private engineering colleges in Assam has not been detailed in this article, as these colleges have their own admission rules and policies.

Entrance Exams Accepted by Assam Engineering Colleges 2019

Assam CEE (Combined Entrance Examination) is an entrance test conducted by DTE Assam for B.Tech admission in government engineering colleges. Assam CEE is score is mandatory for B.Tech admission in state-run government engineering colleges. Some of the private engineering colleges in Assam also accept Assam CEE score for B.Tech admissions. However, private engineering colleges do not participate in the counselling process of DTE Assam.

JEE Main score is also accepted in Assam for B.Tech admission in private engineering colleges. Students can also seek B.Tech admission in Assam through Class 12 merit.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Admission in Assam 2019

The eligibility criteria for B.Tech admission in government engineering colleges of Assam through Assam CEE is as follows –

Domicile Rule

  • The B.Tech applicants of Assam must be the citizens of India.
  • The candidates must be the permanent residents of Assam, and they must possess a valid PRF of Assam issued by competent authority.
  • The candidates must have passed Class 10 & 12 from Assam.

Age Limit

  • The applicants must not be below 17 years of age as on August 01 of the admission year.
  • The upper age limit of the candidates for B.Tech admission in Assam is 21 years.
  • For SC/ ST categories, the upper age limit is 25 years.
  • B.Sc graduates who wish to pursue B.Tech must note that the upper age limit for them is 22 years.

Academic Qualification

  • Candidates of General Category must note that they should have at least 50% of marks in Class 12 with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as the major subjects.
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC/ ST) must note that they should have at least 40 – 45% of marks in Class 12 in the above subjects.
  • The candidates must note that they should have passed all the subjects in Class 12.
  • The candidates must have a valid Assam CEE rank for B.Tech admission in government engineering colleges.

Exemption from Entrance Test

  • Candidates who have more than 85% of marks in Class 12 and hold the first position in the Assam higher secondary examinations are exempted from entrance test.
  • These students are eligible for direct admission in government engineering colleges.

Assam Engineering (B.Tech/ B.E) Admissions Important Dates

Assam CEE entrance exam takes place in June every year. The counselling process for B.Tech admission in Assam government engineering colleges begins after the announcement of Assam CEE results. The counselling is conducted rank wise and the candidates must note the important dates so that do not miss the counselling date. B.Tech admissions in government engineering colleges across Assam are bound to the reservation policies of the state government. The reservation policy for B.Tech admission in Assam for reserved categories is as follows –

Assam B.Tech Admission Procedure 2019

DTE Assam conducts offline-counselling process for B.Tech admission in Assam government engineering colleges. The admission procedure for B.Tech courses in Assam is based on the rank scored by the candidates in Assam CEE. All the candidates who have a valid rank in Assam CEE can take part in the admission process. The candidates with a valid Assam CEE rank must fill a separate application form for Assam B.Tech admission in government engineering colleges.

Assam B.Tech Admission Application Form 2019

Before taking part in the Assam B.Tech counselling process for government engineering colleges, the candidates with a valid Assam CEE rank must fill the application form for the counselling process. The application form will be available on the official website in the first week of July. The candidates must download the application form from the official website of DTE Assam/ Assam CEE and take the printout of the same in A4 size paper. The application form is divided into three parts –

  • Form A – Application Form
  • Form B – Institution Preference Form
  • Form C – Admission Record Sheet

It is the responsibility of the candidates to fill all the above three forms to take part in the Assam B.Tech counselling process for government engineering colleges. The guidelines to fill each form can be checked below –

Guidelines to Fill ‘Form A – Application Form’

The candidates must fill the following details in Form A –

  • Name of the Candidate
  • Father’s Name
  • Parent’s Occupation
  • Annual Income of Parents
  • Address for Communication
  • Details of Exams Passed
  • Marks Scored in Class 12 (to be entered in the form of a percentage)
  • Declaration by Student
  • Declaration by Parent

After filling the above details, the candidates must affix/ paste the passport size photograph in the prescribed column.

Guidelines to Fill ‘Form B – Institute Preference Form’

The list of colleges participating in the counselling process will be available in the institute preference. The candidates must give a preference number (like 1, 2, 3, 4....) to each college. If the candidates fill ‘1’ for a particular college, it means that the candidate is aiming for a seat in that particular college. The institution preference form will have the names of 6-7 colleges, and the candidates are advised to give the preference number for each college for better admission chances.

After filling the preferences, paste/ affix the passport size photograph in the prescribed column.

Guidelines to Fill ‘Form C – Admission Record Sheet’

The candidates must fill the following details in Form C –

  • Personal Details
  • Assam CEE Details such as Roll Number, Rank etc
  • Class 12 Exam and Marks Details

After filling the above details, the candidates must affix/ paste the passport size photograph in the prescribed column.

The candidates must make sure that all the details filled in the application form are correct. Overwriting and scribbling must be avoided in the application form. Candidates must proceed to the counselling process along with the application form on the scheduled date.

Documents Required for Assam B.Tech Admission 2019

The candidates must carry the following documents to the Assam B.Tech counselling venue. The candidates must make sure that they should carry original documents for verification along with self-attested photocopies of the below documents –

  • Assam CEE Counselling Application Form
  • PRC (Permanent Residence Certificate)
  • Category/ Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  • Assam CEE Rank Card
  • Class 10 Mark Sheet
  • Class 12 Admit Card
  • Class 12 Mark Sheet
  • Character Certificate
  • Academic Gap Certificate (if applicable)

The candidates must affix the above documents to the Form A of the application form.

Assam B.Tech Counselling and Seat Allotment Process 2019

DTE Assam conducts offline counselling for Assam B.Tech admissions. The candidates who filled the application form must be present at Assam Engineering Institute on the specified date along with application process and mandatory certificates/ documents (as mentioned above). The counselling process for Assam B.Tech admissions is divided into seven stages, and the details are elaborated below –

Step 1 – Payment of Counselling Fee: After reaching the counselling venue, the candidates are required to pay Rs. 600 towards counselling fee at the specified counter. The candidates will receive a counselling fee payment receipt.

Step 2 – Reporting: The Counselling Team present at the venue will call the ranks, and the candidates with those Assam CEE ranks must report to the counselling team to submit the application form (Form A, B & C).

Step 3 – Certificate Verification: After reporting, the counselling team will direct the candidates to proceed for certificate verification.

Step 4 – Seat Allotment: The seat allotment for B.Tech course in government engineering colleges will be done at the counselling venue instantly. The process of college and engineering branch allocation is strictly based on Assam CEE rank and reservation policies. The candidates must communicate their preference for the branch to the counselling team, and the allocation will be made accordingly.

Step 5 – Computerised Entry of Admission Details: The concerned authority will allocate a seat to the candidates and enter the details in the computer for issuing seat allotment letter.

Step 6 – Issue of Seat Allotment Letter: The counselling team will issue the printout of seat allotment letter to the candidates. The seat allotment letter will have the name and branch allocated to the candidates.

Step 7 – Reporting to Allocated College: The candidates must report to the allocated engineering institution on the specified date for completing other admission formalities such as admission fee payment etc. If the candidates fail to report to college on the specified date, his/ her admission will be cancelled.
