Important Factors to Consider for Government Jobs after MBA

Take a look at some of the major factors provided below before applying for a job in the government sector.

Entry-Level Job Scenario

There are many entry-level jobs available after MBA both by the central as well as the state government. However, they should expect a high salary at the entry-level as most of the companies ask for experience in their field. It is better for the candidate to get a job first instead of looking at the salary. Once they get some experience, they can look for better opportunities.

Perks and Benefits

Candidates from the government sector get a lot of benefits such as medical and maternity services. The government sector is far better than the private sector in this case. However, the whole scenario changes when it comes to salary. According to a research study, it was found that the private sector professionals are getting a better salary than the government sector but the services and benefits provided to them are less as compared to the private sector professionals.

Career Growth

Growth in career is good in the private sector as compared to the government sector. An employee working in the private sector may become a VP within 15 years while an employee from a government organization may become a superintendent or senior clerk. The pay scale of the private sector is three times than that of the government sector.

Job Security vs. Accountability

Government jobs are no longer cumbersome and there is an increased level of transparency and accountability. An MBA graduate should think carefully that why is he/she willing to work in the governmental organisation hierarchy and what is his/her goal.

Competency is Rewarded

Employees from the government sector who are not performing well and taking the work allotted to them casually are no longer secure when it comes to the job. The government is on the lookout for the candidates whose skills are matching with the job profiles and projects which allows the candidates from respective branches to apply. There are some government agencies which are now collaborating with companies from the private sector for their projects.

All the candidates are advised to know the difference between jobs in the government sector and private sector before applying. Candidates who are sure about applying for the government job can take a look at the various vacancies available at the government organization. They will also have to perform well in the entrance exam conducted for the particular job profile to get selected.
