About SSC CGL 2018

Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Examination, also known as SSC CGL, is a national-level exam conducted to recruit candidates for various posts in Ministries, Departments and Organisations of the Government of India. To appear in SSC CGL, candidates should have completed their graduation from a recognised university. Conducted in four tiers, candidates have to qualify Tier I, II, III and IV with a high score to be selected for the recruitment to different posts. Subject to administrative/public exigencies, final selection through the Combined Graduate Level Examination to specific categories of posts would be according to the confirmed number of vacancies from the concerned Indenting Ministries/ Department/Office/Cadres before the declaration of results.

SSC CGL 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Staff Selection Commision (SSC) prescribes the SSC CGL 2018 eligibility criteria that applicants must fulfill to become eligible to take the exam. As part of the eligibility conditions, candidates have to satisfy requirements related to age limit, educational qualification and nationality, etc. To become eligible to appear for SSC CGL 2018 eligibility criteria, candidates must have completed their graduation and should be between the age group of 18 to 30.

Before filling the SSC CGL application form, candidates must fulfill the following eligibility norms. 

Nationality Criteria

A candidate must be either Indian Citizen or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee (who moved with an intention to permanently settle in India before 1962) or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention to permanently settle in India.

Age Limit Criteria

  • The lower and upper limit of age varies post-wise.

  • Applicants’ age mentioned in the 10th/12th certificates will be considered.

  • To apply for SSC CGL 2018, applicants must be between 18 years to 32 years (as on August 1, 2018).

SSC CGL 2018 Exam Pattern

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) CGL 2018 exam pattern includes details such as the mode of taking the exam, number of sections, type of questions, marking scheme, weightage of topics, exam duration and number of questions.   • Tier II will be conducted in online mode, and it will have Objective type of questions.

  • Candidates can choose their medium of writing the paper as Hindi or English.

  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks in Paper-II and 0.50 marks in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper IV for each wrong response.

  • Paper-I and II are compulsory to attempt for all the categories of posts, whereas Paper-III is only for those who apply for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr. II and Compiler, and Paper IV is only for those who apply for the post of Assistant Audit Officer.

SSC CGL 2018 Result

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) declares the result of SSC CGL 2018 in three stages -Tier I, Tier II and final. SSC CGL 2018 result of Tier I is declared in the month of October, however, the result of SSC CGL Tier II is declared in April.

On the basis of the result in Tier I, candidates are selected to appear for Tier II, and afterward, the final result of SSC CGL 2018 is declared in the month of May/June 2018 for selecting candidates for recruitment into various posts.

SSC CGL 2018 Cut-off

The cut-off of SSC CGL 2018 will be declared by Staff Selection Commission (SSC). On the basis of the cut-off score, candidates having higher rank will be selected for subsequent rounds of the recruitment process. In Tier I, candidates scoring sectional as well as overall cut-off marks will be allowed to appear in Tier II, and candidates scoring SSC CGL 2018 cut-off score in Tier II will become eligible for appearing in Tier III and IV.

Stage 1: Tier I Online Test

  • To appear in further stages of the SSC CGL process 2018, candidates must successfully clear Tier I, which is the first stage of SSC CGL Selection Procedure 2018.

  • Tier-I exam is an objective exam, which comprises of 200 marks questions.

  • Candidates who qualify Tier-I exam will be eligible to appear for Tier-II.

Stage 2: Tier II Online Test

Tier-II consists of objective type of questions, which comprises of four papers in total. Paper-I and Paper-II are compulsory for all, however, Paper III will be for the candidates who have applied for the post of Statistical Investigator and Paper IV will be for those candidates who have applied for the post of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) in C&AG.

Candidates qualifying in Tier-II will be allowed to appear for SSC CGL 2018 Tier-III.

Stage 3: Tier III Descriptive Test

  • Candidates will be shortlisted for Tier III on the basis of their performance in Tier I and Tier II.

  • The Descriptive Test of SSC CGL will be conducted in Pen and Paper mode.

  • The qualifying marks in Tier-III would be 33% and the questions asked at this stage will be of class 12 standard.

Stage 4: Tier IV Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) /Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)

  • As per the marks scored by the candidates in Tier I and Tier II, candidates will determine the eligibility of the candidates to appear in Tier IV.

  • Tier-IV will continue to be the Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) /Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), which will be of a qualifying nature.

SSC CGL Selection Procedure 2018 – Final Merit

  • On the basis of the total score in Tier-I, Tier-I, and Tier-III, the final merit of the successful candidates will be prepared.

  • All India Merit List will be prepared for each category for various posts by SSC.

  • Only to the shortlisted candidates, letter of appointments will be given.

In case of a tie, the following will be considered:

  • Total marks of Tier-II Examination.

  • Total marks in the written examination.

SSC CGL 2018 Admit Card

SSC CGL 2018 Admit Card for Tier 1 exam will be released by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) in the first week of July 2018. The admit card will be available in online mode to the candidates whose online applications have been accepted. Candidates must note that SSC will release separate admit cards for each stage of examination – Tier 1, 2, 3 and 4. In order to access the SSC CGL admit card 2018, candidates may have to login using their registration number/roll number/name and date of birth.

SSC CGL 2018 admit card will have the name of the candidate, roll number, date, time, test center name, address, photograph and signature of the candidate. Along with the SSC CGL 2018 2018 admit card, candidates will be required to carry a photo-identity proof to the examination center. Without the SSC CGL 2018 admit card and photo-identity proof, candidates will not be allowed to appear for the entrance exam.

Note: The admit card of SSC CGL 2018 will not be sent to the candidates via post.

How to Apply for SSC CGL 2018

The SSC CGL 2018 application process started on May 5, 2018 and ended on June 5, 2018. The procedure to apply for the exam is divided into two parts - Part I is Registration where candidates have to provide their basic information, and then there is Part II where candidates need to pay the requisite application fee and upload photograph and signature in the specific dimension. The final step is submitting the application form of SSC CGL 2018 that completes the entire application process.

SSC CGL exam is held every year by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to hire candidates for Group B and C posts in various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India. 

Step 1: Registration

  • Log on to the official website- www.ssc.nic.in

  • Click on the Exam Link displaying Part 1 Registration

  • Fill in the details like Name, Educational qualification, Address, Demographic details, etc, and click on ‘Submit’.

  • After registration, applicants will be issued a Registration ID for future references.

Step 2: Application

  • Log in by using your Registration ID and Password (Date of Birth).

  • Applicants can pay the SSC CGL 2018 fee of INR 100 (for General candidates) either in online mode or offline mode (through SBI Challan). There is no application fee for SC/ST/Female/PH/Ex-servicemen applicants.
