
The list of new medical colleges in India includes prestigious institutes like the Tinsukia Medical College in Assam and Bhagyoday Medical College in Gujarat, among others. A total of 112 new medical colleges in India were introduced in 2024. Out of these, nearly 50 are government medical colleges and around 62 are private medical colleges. With the increase in the total number of new medical colleges in India, the number of MBBS seats has increased by approximately 10,000.

Eligibility Criteria for New Medical Colleges in India

For Government Medical Colleges in India:
For admission to new government medical colleges in India, students must follow these rules:
- Students must have qualified their 10+2 with a Science background.
- Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics, and English must be the core subjects in the 10+2 qualifying exam.
- Students must get at least 45-50% marks in 10+2 for admission qualification.
- The minimum age requirement for admission is 17 years.
- While some colleges may have a maximum age limit of 25-35 years of age, it is not applicable for all medical course admissions.
- Some government medical colleges may require a domicile criterion for state-based admissions.
- Students must pass national or state-level entrance exams for admission. For example, NEET UG, MH-CET, JENPAS UG, etc.
For Private Medical Colleges in India:
For admission to new private medical colleges in India, students must follow these rules:
- Students have to complete their 10+2 in Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics, and English as core subjects.
- The minimum score required for admission is 45-50% marks in 10+2.
- Students must meet the minimum age criteria of 17 years to be eligible.
- Some colleges may have a maximum age limit of 25-35 years of age while others may not have a set age limit at all for admission.

After qualifying the specified entrance exam, students are required to participate in the admission counselling process.
For admission through the NEET 2025 Counselling, students can directly participate through the MCC portal for the 15% AIQ seats. For applying through the state admission process, students must visit the respective state counselling body and register for the 85% State Quota counselling process.
In other cases, one must visit the respective college website and complete the counselling registration through the link provided on the official website.

The admission process is usually conducted on a merit-based selection process.
Many private medical colleges have separate seats reserved for different student categories such as NRIs, sports Quota, Management Quota, etc.
The respective colleges will release a merit list announcing the names of the selected students for the counselling process.
