There are various determinants considered by the NEET authorities in case of a tie. Students eager to know how rank is decided in the NEET for the same marks in 2025 can find the parameters given below.
If two or more candidates end up scoring the same marks, their Biology marks will be taken as a tie-breaker and the candidate who gets a higher score in Biology will be assigned a higher rank.
If that fails to break the tie, then their Chemistry marks will be taken into consideration. The student securing higher marks in Chemistry will be awarded a higher rank.
If the tie remains unresolved, then the marks obtained in Physics will be considered and the one who has higher scores on the subject will get the higher position.
Next, to further resolve the tie, the candidate who answers the maximum number of questions correctly will be assigned a higher rank.
In case the tie among students exists even then, the candidate with the lesser number of wrong answers in Biology will be rewarded a higher rank.
If that fails to break the tie, the next will step will be to calculate the number of incorrect responses in Chemistry. Whoever answers the least number of wrong questions in Chemistry will get the higher rank.
If the tie persists even then, the number of correct responses in Physics will be calculated. The least number of incorrect answers in Physics will be assigned a higher rank.
Lastly, if the tie remains unresolved, candidates will be assigned a higher rank based on the ascending order of their NEET application number.
How to Calculate NEET Percentile Score in the NEET Ranking System?
The NEET percentile simply denotes how many students taking the entrance exam have scored less or more than a particular candidate. It is calculated in comparison to the NEET raw score of the topper and represents the candidate's position below the NEET topper and above others.
If examinees know your NEET score, it will be easier for them to find out the percentile scores using the following formula:
P = Percentile
N = Total number of applicants taking the test
R = Rank obtained by the competitor
Then, P = [(N – P)/P] X 100
Thus, if a examinee has secured the 50th rank in NEET 2025 and 5,00,000 applicants have appeared for the exam, then
P = [(5,00,000 – 50)/5,00,000] x 100
Percentile Scores (P) = 99.99
