The Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology (GCETTB), offers the courses in the doamin of textie engineering. GCETTB was established in 1927, aims at utilizing its vast experience of nearly 88 years in providing quality education and world class infrastructure to everyone in the country. The Institute envisions to create an education-centric environment for its students and to motivate them at every point to utilize their potentials to the maximum limit. GCETTB endeavors to keep up with the changing times and the changing needs of the society and modifies its curriculum in such a way that the education will be relevant to the present times and can also serve the students adequately for the years to come. The Institute continues to strive in the direction of unmatched excellence and takes pride in being one of the oldest Institutions in the nation. GCETTB realizes the importance of its students being morally sound and culturally adept along with being technically skilled and has thus created an environment such that the graduates can go on to become integral part of the ever growing nation of India. The college was brought under the academic control of the West Bengal University of Technology in 2001. In the same year, a new B. Tech. course in Computer Science and Engineering was introduced. In 2002, the college was once again renamed the Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology.

The college library offers a wide range of science and technological books and journals. The students can borrow two books at a time for two weeks. Besides they are also entitled to get one book from the book bank.

The administration of the hostel is supervised by the hostel superintendent and one hostel monitor from the hostel boarders. The hostel and the mess is run by a hostel committee consisting of hostel superintendent, staff member & students
