Uttar Pradesh B Tech Admission Procedure 2026

Central Admission Board (CAB) headed by AKTU conducts the admission process for Uttar Pradesh B.Tech/ B.E courses. The UP BTech admission process for different categories in government and private engineering colleges is different. The UP B.Tech admission process is strictly bound to admission rules and procedures framed by the admission authority. More details are elaborated on below.

Merit-Based Admissions

The UP BTech admission process is completely based on the merit of candidates in the JEE Main exam. Candidates with a valid JEE Main score can get admission into UP engineering colleges. However, the students will have to take part in a centralised/ online counselling process for B.Tech courses.

Seats Available under Different Scheme for First-Year B Tech Courses:

  • The number of seats/ admissions available in B.Tech courses at engineering colleges affiliated with AKTU is filled through JEE Main merit. A certain percentage of engineering seats will be deducted, and the rest will be allocated to the JEE Main merit quota.

  • As per the UP state government rules, 15% of seats available in private engineering colleges can be filled by the respective institutes underthe Management/ NRI quota. These institutes must follow the government rules while conducting the admission process.

  • If there are any vacant seats after Management/ NRI quota admissions, such seats must be surrendered to the state government, which will be filled through JEE Main counselling 2026 .

  • UP government allocated 10% of seats in private engineering colleges to non-UP domicile students. Such seats must be filled through JEE Main merit.

Admission to Engineering Courses under Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme: As per AICTE rules, economically weaker meritorious students are eligible to seek B.Tech admission in UP under the Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme. The colleges do not charge tuition fees for the students enrolled under the fee waiver scheme. The seats available under the Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme in UP are 5% of the approved intake in the B.Tech course.
