FAQ

Is it absolutely necessary to register with an email id for online application? <p><strong>YES</strong>. An email containing a link to confirm your email-ID will be sent to the registered email id. You should therefore use your personal email-id.</p>

I have forgotten my password that I had given during registration. What should I do? <p><strong>YOU CAN RETRIVE YOUR PASSWORD.</strong> Use the &#39;Oops! I forgot my password&#39; link provided on the login page. This password can be retrieved maximum twice.</p>

I am waiting for my password after Registration. When/How shall I receive? <p><strong>PASSWORDS ARE NOT SENT OVER EMAIL</strong>. Use the password that YOU had provided during registration. Login in window (sign-in) after clicking the confirmation link in your email.&nbsp;</p>

I am not ready with my scanned photograph and signature. What should I do? <p><strong>NOT A PROBLEM</strong>. You may upload the photo and the signature at the very last stage. However, they are mandatory for completion of the application process.</p>

How should I convert my CGPA to percentage? <p><strong>PLEASE FOLLOW YOUR BOARD&rsquo;S GUIDELINE</strong>. Typically it is done by multiplying 9.5 to the overall CGPA.&nbsp;</p>

After upload, images look too small to be identified. Is it accepted? <p>NO. Please follow the instruction to crop the pictures and re-upload by clicking the &lsquo;Select Photo&rsquo; or &lsquo;Select Signature&rsquo; button.</p>

Wrong pictures uploaded. What to do? <p><strong>CHANGE THE PHOTO</strong>. Click &lsquo;Select Photo&rsquo; again and choose correct file. Wrong picture should be replaced automatically after few seconds.</p>

I can’t choose my photo as the file browser window does not appear when I click ‘Select Photo’. How to complete the upload process? <p>CHANGE THE BROWSER. Please try with some advanced browsers like Chrome/Firefox. Your current browser is blocking this feature.</p>

Can I pay using DD or cash? <p>NO. The only option for payment is online. You must choose any one of the two available payment gateways. Either gateway allows payment using Net-Banking/Debit card/Credit card of multiple Banks.</p>

Whenever I click “Save and Continue” nothing seems to happen. What should I do? <p>CHROME ISSUE. In Google Chrome: You have disabled the alert box by putting a check in &ldquo;Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs&rdquo;. Please close the browser, reopen and login in NEST. Alert boxes will be enabled again.</p>

What are the eligibility criteria for appearing in NEST? <p>Candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below:</p> <ul> <li>Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after August 01, 1997. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled (PD) candidates.</li> <li>Class XII qualifying examination should be passed in either 2015 or 2016. Candidates appearing in 2017 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)</li> <li>At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%.</li> <li>Candidate should secure a position in the NEST merit list.</li> </ul>

I passed my XIIth board exam before 2015 but my date of birth is within eligible range. Am I eligible for admission? <p><strong>YOU ARE NOT, UNFORTUNATELY</strong>. You need to satisfy all four criteria of eligibility.&nbsp;</p>

I did not have one subject among Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology in my XIIth board exam. Am I eligible? <p>YES, YOU ARE ELIGIBLE. The eligibility criterion is that a candidate should be from science stream with any combination of science subjects. However, if selected you will have to study all 4 subjects (B,C,M,P) in the first year only.</p>

I have a gap of more than two years between my Xth and XIIth board exams? Am I eligible? <p>YES, YOU ARE ELIGIBLE. Only XIIth passing year should be in 2015/ 2016/ 2017.&nbsp;</p>

Is there an age limit for the NEST? <p>General and OBC category candidates born on or after August 01, 1997 are eligible for admission to the integrated M.Sc. programme of NISER/CEBS. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC / ST / PD candidates.</p>

For how long is the NEST score valid? <p>The NEST score is valid for just one year.</p>

How many seats are allotted in NISER and CEBS for the academic session 2017? <p><strong>Number of seats available at the two institutes for admission in the year 2017 would be as follows :-</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>NISER Total&nbsp; Seats:- </strong>172 (including reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC/PD candidates and two seats for candidates from the state of J&amp;K as per Government norms)</li> <li><strong>CEBS Total&nbsp; Seats:-</strong> 47 (including two seats for candidates from the state of J&amp;K and reservation for persons with disability (PD))</li> </ul>

Are there any Scholarships for meritorious students? <p>The 5&ndash;year integrated MSc programme at NISER and CEBS offers a limited number of merit based INSPIRE (by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India) scholarships of Rs 5,000/&ndash; per month and an additional Rs 20,000/&ndash; per year for carrying out summer projects. For the students entered into the MSc programme through NEST&ndash;2016 the numbers of such scholarships were 60 for NISER and 25 for CEBS.&nbsp;</p>
