The CSAB Round 1 seat allotment 2026 is expected to be released in August 2026. Students who have already participated in JoSAA or who did not register for JoSAA counselling were also eligible to participate in the CSAB special round. The CSAB registration 2026 will be conducted online for all channels, i.e. CSAB UT (supernumerary seats in the Union Territories), CSAB NEUT ( North-Eastern states and Union Territories), and CSAB SFTI (Self-financed technical institutes) separately. Candidates who wish to take part in the CSAB 2026 Seat Allotment will be required to register for CSAB 2026.


Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) 2026 is held to offer admissions to participating institutes ( IIITs , NITs, and GFTIs) based on JEE Main scores. The Government of India established the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), formerly known as the Central Counselling Board (CCB), to oversee admissions to UG degree programmes in engineering, technology, and architecture at NITs, IIESTs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The participating institutes for CSAB 2026 admissions include NITs (National Institutes of Technology) , IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology), and GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes) . The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) do not participate in the CSAB 2026 counselling.

CSAB 2026 Eligibility Criteria for Special Rounds

The eligibility criteria for CSAB 2026 special round counselling can be checked below –

Eligibility Rule 1

Candidates who have not registered for JoSAA counselling but eligible as per their JEE Main rank are allowed to register for CSAB special round.

Eligibility Rule 2

Candidates who have registered for JoSAA and were allocated seat from Round 1-6 are also eligible to participate in the special round of CSAB.

Eligibility Rule 3

Candidates who have registered for JoSAA and were not allocated a seat from Round 1-6 are eligible for the CSAB special round.

Eligibility Rule 4

Candidates who have accept the seat and paid the partial admission fee through JoSAA can also take part in CSAB.

Eligibility Rule 5

Candidates who have opted for ‘Not to Participate in Special Round’ at the time of reporting are not eligible for CSAB.

Before registering for the CSAB 2026, the candidates must be ready with a scanned copy of the following documents, which have to be uploaded at the time of registration.

CSAB 2026 Registration for Special Round

Candidates who have registered for JoSAA must note that his/ her registration will turn null and void, and a fresh registration has to be made on the CSAB portal. The online registration process for CSAB 2026 special round can be checked below –

Step 1

Visit the official website csab.nic.in

Step 2

Enter the JEE Main Roll Number and other required details for registration. Update some details such as State of Eligibility, Gender, Nationality, and Category.

Step 3

Upload the scanned copy of the documents mentioned above

Step 4

Pay the participation or processing fee and confirm the registration.

At the time of registration, the candidates will have to enter the Bank Account details such as Name, Bank Name, Account Number or IFSC code for any refund from CSAB.

CSAB 2026 Choice Filling

Along with the online registration, the candidates will also have to fill in the choices through he/ she will have to choose the NIT/ IIIT/ GFTI as per the vacant seats available. The vacant seat data after JoSAA Round 6 shall be displayed on the CSAB portal. The choices filled during JoSAA counselling are not acceptable, and the candidates will have to fill in fresh choices for CSAB. There is no limit on the number of choices filled by the candidates. After filling in the choices, the candidates will have to ‘Save’ & ‘Lock’ the choices so that the seat allotment result can be processed.

Note: Candidates who have been allocated and accepted a seat in JoSAA and are willing to take part in CSAB must fill in fresh choices. For these candidates, available options except the allocated seat in JoSAA shall be displayed. These candidates will either be allocated a seat in CSAB or an earlier allocated seat shall be retained (if not allocated a seat in CSAB).

CSAB 2026 Seat Allotment

After the choice filling, CSAB releases the seat allotment. CSAB conducts two rounds of special counselling. After checking the seat allotment result through the CSAB portal, the candidates will have to accept the seat allotment, pay the seat acceptance fee and confirm the admission. On the other hand, candidates willing to participate in Special Round 2 can choose Float or Slide options. The seat acceptance fee details can be checked below.

CSAB 2026 Seat Acceptance & Reporting Process after Round 1

The seat acceptance and reporting process after CSAB Round 1 can be checked below. For accepting the seat, any of the following options must be chosen –

Freeze

If the candidate is satisfied with the seat allotment and does not want to participate in Round 2, ‘Freeze’ is the option that must be chosen.

Slide

If the candidate is looking for a better course allotment within the same institute, ‘Slide’ is the option that must be chosen. In such cases, the allotted seat will be accepted and will be cancelled only if the candidate gets a better allotment.

Float

If the candidate is looking for a better institute allotment, ‘Float’ is the option that has to be chosen. . In such cases, the allotted seat will be accepted and will be cancelled only if the candidate gets a better allotment in the second round.

Surrender and Participate in Special Round 2

Candidates who want to ‘Reject’ the seat allotted in Round 1 and wants to participate in Round 2 can choose this option. In such cases, the candidates are not allowed to retain seat allocated in Round 1.

Surrender and Not Participate in Special Round 2

Candidates who do not want to proceed with counselling can surrender the allocated seat and withdraw from the counselling process.

CSAB 2026 Participation and Seat Acceptance Fee Refund Rules

The CSAB refund rules for participation fee and seat acceptance fee are as follows –

Refund Rule 1

Candidates who chose to withdraw the allotted seat in JoSAA counselling and do not want to participate in the special round are entitled for a refund of the seat allotment fee with a deduction of Rs. 2,000.

Refund Rule 2

Candidates who are not allotted a seat in the special round, he/ she shall be entitled to a refund of the participation fee with a deduction of Rs. 2,000.

Refund Rule 3

Candidates who are not allocated a seat in CSAB Round 1 and wants to withdraw from Round 2 counselling are entitled to a refund of participation fee with a deduction of Rs. 2,000

Refund Rule 4

Candidates who have been allocated a seat in Special Round 1 and failed to report to the institute within the specified deadline, he/she shall be entitled to the refund of seat acceptance fee with a deduction of Rs. 6,000.

Refund Rule 5

Candidates who opt for Surrender of Seat and Participate in Round 2 and are not allocated a seat in Round 2 must note that he/ she shall be entitled to a refund of Seat Acceptance/ Participation Fee with a deduction of Rs. 6,000

Refund Rule 6 If a candidate who has been allotted a seat in Special Round-I and his/her seat gets cancelled due to ineligibility OR in-appropriate documents noticed during document verification, his/her Participation Fee and Seat Acceptance Fee (if paid) will be refunded after deducting Rs 6,000

Note: After the CSAB 2nd special round, candidates who fail to join or report to the allotted institute, his/ her seat acceptance or participation fee will not be refunded.

CSAB UT 2026

  • The CSAB UT 2026 is going to be conducted for applicants who are eligible in Union Territories (Daman & Diu, Andaman & Nicobar, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Lakshadweep & Khandvi).
  • CSAB 2026 Registration will commence tentatively from the second week of August 2026. Only candidates who meet the eligibility criteria but were not allocated any seats in JoSAA or should have reported for any allotment during JoSAA rounds or should have reported after the seat allotment to the respective reporting centers but withdrew until the final round of allotment.
  • Candidates who were allotted seats and canceled due to a change in the category, unallotted will be eligible.
  • Applicants who paid the initial fee and did not report to the reporting center till the last date are also eligible.
  • The initial fee for Gen/OBC NCL candidates is Rs. 35000, while for SC/ST/Gen-PWD/OBC NCL PwD/SC PwD or ST PwD candidates, it is Rs. 15000.

CSAB SFTI 2026

  • CSAB SFTI 2026 admissions will be offered to eligible candidates in participating institutes (Self Financed Technical Institutes) based on their JEE Main scores.
  • To be eligible for the CSAB SFTI 2026 admission process, candidates should pass class 10+2 with a minimum of 45% marks where relaxation is provided to the SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD categories (i.e. they have to score 40%).
  • Applicants must have studied Physics, Chemistry or Biology or Biotechnology, Biology, Technical Vocational Subjects/Mathematics in their class 10+2 exam. Along with this, they must have a valid JEE Main Paper 1 rank.
  • Candidates need to note that last year there was no registration done online or offline due to the lack of participating institutes.

How much percentile is required for CSAB?

There are no qualifying marks required to appear for CSAB. The admission will be based entirely on the JEE main merit list.

Who is eligible for CSAB 2026?
