Why is CUET 2024 Exam So Popular?

In its maiden year, 2022 The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) became the second biggest entrance exam in India with 9.14 lakh registrations and 87 universities on board. This number is expected to increase in the CUET 2024 examination. This statistic is provided not to make you nervous but to understand why it is on the verge of becoming one of the most sought after exams after NEET and JEE. Let us understand why it is so?

  • The CUET exam provides a common platform  for the candidate to appear in any university and multiple courses through a common platform.
  • According to CUET 2022 a compiled university wise application count is 47 lakhs with a candidate on average opting for five universities.
  • The exam provides an opportunity for candidates from even the remote parts of India to appear and study in some of the best universities. For instance, CUET 2022 saw an increase in the number of applications from Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.
  • The CUET exam is expected to be conducted twice a year and the number of universities and even participation of private colleges is also expected to increase, leading to an increase in popularity of the exam.
  • Candidates are provided with the flexibility to choose the medium of the exam from any of the 13 languages mentioned.
  • Very high cut-offs of various top colleges and universities restrict some of the students to enroll in their place of choice. In CUET the NTA will prepare a common merit list after the results are out for candidates to get admission.
  • The CUET 2024 exam will provide an opportunity to candidates who have low scores in class XII exam and get demotivated but still wish to study in top education institutions of the country.
  • The marking system followed for assessment of class XII is different across different boards. For instance, a candidate might be scoring more in CBSE board and another more in ICSE board despite having the same potential and caliber.
  • Some of the popular universities and colleges followed their own criteria for admission earlier. As a result of non-uniform selection procedures by different universities there was often concern of biasness by the students.
  • The CUET exam provides a wide range of choices to the candidates and also ensures that all universities gain equal prominence.
  • Earlier the candidates did not get clarity about their rank due to the class XII merit based system followed and this resulted in confusion among the students and frequent changing of colleges. The CUET will provide scores as well as respective university merit lists to give more clarity to the students.
