The Cheran Group of Institutions was established in 1991 by Dr. K.C. Palanisamy, in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The institute is affiliated with Dr. MGR Medical University and Bharathiar University. The Cheran Group of Institutions has various institutions under it, namely, Cheran College of Pharmacy, Cheran College of Nursing, Cheran College of Physiotherapy, SMS College Of Arts and Science, Cheran College for Women and Cheran Arts and Science College.

Cheran Group of Institutions placement cell hosts more than 100 engaging companies in the placement season. For the academic year 2020-21, about 120 placement offers were made to the students of Cheran institute in companies like Cognizant, TCS, Wipro, L&T Groups, etc. With most of the Cheran Group of Institution placements coming from the IT sector, core science and data analysis sector recruiters also showed a reasonable interest in the recent Cheran Group of Institution placement drives.
