About Calcutta University B.Tech and M.Tech Admissions 2020

The admission process for B.Tech and M.Tech courses 2020 is expected to begin in the month of August. Calcutta University B.Tech admissions 2020 will be on the basis of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) and the M.Tech admissions 2020 will be conducted on the basis of an entrance exam GATE (or Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering) followed by an interview. WBJEE is based on class XI and XII syllabus and the exam will have 2 papers. Paper I will have the Mathematics section and it will have a duration of 2 hours. Paper-II will include Physics and Chemistry, and this will have a duration of 2 hours. The exam will have multiple-choice questions.

  • Candidate must have passed 10+2 examination under the West Bengal Board of Higher Secondary Education or even its equivalent with Chemistry, Maths and Physics with at least 60% marks in these subjects and must have cleared WBJEE.

  • The minimum requirement of marks is not applicable for the Jute and Fibre specialisation.

Calcutta University M.Tech Eligibility Criteria 2020

  • The student must have passed in B.Tech from the universities of CU or any other recognised university with the required combination of subjects.

  • If the student is not a CU graduate then he must have a score of 60% from any other university.

  • If the student is from a University other than Calcutta University, he or she should have secured at least 60 per cent marks or its equivalent grade at the bachelor or B.Tech level. He/she should also have a valid score in the GATE exam in the relevant subject.

  • Submit the application form on the official WBJEE website.

  • WBJEE Application Form includes three steps filling personal details, uploading the documents and payment of fees.

  • Candidates will be directed to the document upload section wherein they will have to upload all the documents/images in jpg/jpeg format. The size of the page should be in A4 format.

Calcutta University B.Tech Application Fee 2020

Once all the documents have been uploaded, candidates will have to pay an application fee of Rs.500 + bank service charges through debit card/ credit card or through Allahabad bank challan. Once students pay the B.Tech application fee 2020, they can take a print out of the confirmation page after submitting the application. No documents have to sent by post.

Calcutta University M.Tech Application Form 2020

  • Candidates must apply for the programme online on the University website.

  • Open the M.Tech.admission page to apply online and click on the ‘Click here to register’ link at the bottom of the Login form.

  • The new users will have to register on the website by creating an account with a unique username and password. The username/ password is important for all further activities.

  • Fill the ‘Personal’ page information and then go to the 'Payment’ page, one after another.

  • Candidates can also save the form and complete it later rather than filling it one go.

Documents Required for Calcutta University M.Tech Application Form 2020

The list of documents that have to be uploaded while filling the 2020 M.Tech application form of Calcutta University are given below

  • Scanned photo (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm) in jpg/jpeg format and size less than 20 KB.

  • Scanned Signature (Sign on a piece of paper 6 cm x 2 cm) in jpg/jpeg format and size less than 20 KB.

Calcutta University M.Tech Application Fee 2020

Candidates have to pay an application fee of Rs. 200 in the case of general candidates and Rs.100 in the case of reserved categories for M.Tech admissions 2020 at Calcutta University. The fee payment can be done online through net banking or through ATM credit card/ debit card. Candidates also have the option of depositing cash at any State Bank branch. Once all the details have been filled, candidates will have to click submit and take a print out of the application form. This will complete the registration process. In the case of cash payment, candidates will have to send a copy of the e-receipt along with the printed application form to the address below

Given below is the B.Tech Selection Process 2020 at Calcutta University

  • Candidates will be selected on the basis of WBJEE 2020

  • The marking scheme for WBJEE 2020 is category wise.

  • For category 1, one mark will be given for every correct answer and there will be negative marking with 0.25 marks being deducted for each incorrect answer. For marking more than 1 answer, marks will be deducted.

  • For category 2, 2 marks will be given for every correct answer and negative marking of 0.50 will be for the wrong answers. For marking more than 1 answer, marks will be deducted.

  • In the case of category 3, more than 1 answer can be correct and there will be no negative marking. Candidates will have to mark all the correct answers for which 2 marks will be allocated. But if you mark one correct and one incorrect answer, then no marks will be given.

M.Tech Selection Process 2020

Given below is the M.Tech Selection Process 2020 at Calcutta University

  • Full Time - For full-time M.Tech, candidates will be selected on the basis of an entrance exam conducted by the respective departments of the university followed by an interview. 70% weightage is given to the GATE score (out of 100) and 20% weightage is given to the marks secured in the entrance test. 10% weightage is for the interview.

  • Part-Time - For part-time M.Tech, candidates will be selected on the basis of the entrance test marks (50%) + interview (50%) including additional weightage of the in-service candidate (in-service candidate can get maximum 20 marks out of 50 interview marks). Without service, the candidates will get 0 marks out of 20 for in-service criteria.

  • There will be an entrance test which will have multiple choice questions and will have a duration of one and a half hours. The exam will have 100 marks and the number of questions in each test will be 50. Each question will have four options of answers of which only one will be correct. For every correct answer, 2 marks will be given and there will be negative marking with 0.5 marks being deducted for every wrong answer.
