How to Make it to the CAT Toppers List 2023

Becoming a CAT topper requires an exceptional level of preparation, dedication, and focus. Follow the tips given below to understand how to make it to the CAT toppers list 2023.

  • If you are opting for self-preparation, familiarize yourself with the CAT exam pattern, structure, marking scheme, sections included and their respective weightage.

  • Ensure that you master the fundamental concepts of mathematics, reasoning, and language to solve highly complex CAT questions.

  • Create a well-structured study plan that covers and allocates time to all sections of the CAT exam based on your strengths and weaknesses, among Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. Sectional practice is crucial.

  • Enrol in coaching institutes for advanced preparation and mock tests that will help you understand the exam pattern, improve your test-taking strategy, analyze your performance, assess your strengths and weaknesses, and learn from your mistakes.

  • Solve a lot of CAT mock tests and CAT previous year question papers to enhance your time management skills which are essential during both your preparation and the actual exam. Focus on answering more and more questions with maximum accuracy within the time limits.

  • Keep yourself updated on current affairs to perform well in the General Knowledge section.

  • Since many CAT questions require in-depth problem-solving and logical reasoning skills, improve your analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Read newspapers, books, and articles regularly to develop a strong vocabulary and reading comprehension skills.

CAT Toppers' Strategy & Preparation Tips

If you are preparing for the CAT exam for the upcoming session, then must know how the previous years' toppers cracked the exam with 99-100 percentile. Check the table below for the preparation strategy and tips shared by the CAT toppers from the past years.

CAT Topper

CAT Toppers Strategy & Preparation Tips

Parul Arora (CAT 2022, 99.93%ile)

Having good time management skills is very important. I used to have classes early in the morning and preferred to finish all my tests and assignments before starting my work at the office. I would set a daily target and if I couldn't achieve it in the first half of the day, I made sure to complete it after my office hours. To improve my skills, I joined Sony Goyal Sir’s coaching centre called "Missioncat." Joining a coaching centre can be very helpful if you struggle with staying motivated and regular on your own.

Kushagra (CAT 2022, 99.7%ile)

I started preparing for the CAT exam in January, fully aware that my performance in this section could determine my overall success in the exam. As a working professional, I joined Elites Grid coaching to help me manage my time and receive guidance. To prepare for the exam, I took around 30 to 40 mock tests from various sources such as Career Launcher, IMS test series, and Elite Grid's mocks. I aimed to simulate the actual test environment by sitting for two hours for each mock test.

Chirag Gupta (CAT 2021, 100%ile)

I made sure to focus on mastering the basics at the start of my CAT exam preparations. I began with easier questions and gradually moved on to more difficult ones. I completed around 50-60 mock tests, which I believe is an integral part of CAT preparation. On the day of the exam, my strategy was to remain calm and not stress too much about the outcome. During the preparation, it is crucial to be honest with yourself and not overestimate or underestimate your understanding of the concepts.

Kshitiz Singhal (CAT 2020, 99.99%ile)

I began my preparation for the CAT exam by first understanding its pattern and syllabus. After completing the syllabus, I started practising mock tests. I purchased study materials and enrolled in a mock test series offered by renowned institutes for additional practice. I focused on improving my approach to solving problems and analysed my mock tests in detail to identify areas of improvement. My suggestion for other aspirants is to concentrate on building strong fundamentals and increasing speed and accuracy.

Somansh Chordia (CAT 2019, 100%ile)

I found that my love for the pattern of the CAT exam really helped me during my preparation. I identified the skills that I needed to work on and realized that it's important to compare my performance with others, as it is a competitive exam. However, I made sure not to get demoralized or overconfident in the process. Instead, I focused on competing with myself and occasionally comparing my progress with others, just to see where I stand and learn from those who are doing better. I strongly believe that we can only achieve what we imagine and believe in. Therefore, it's crucial to believe in yourself and the endless possibilities that are possible.

Rounak Majumdar (CAT 2018, 100%ile

I based my entire preparation on taking mock tests. I attempted two mock tests every week, which adds up to around 40 mock tests in a year. I used to do practice tests on weekends and analyze my results during the week. Analyzing mock tests is more important than actually appearing for them because it helps me understand my shortcomings and devise a test strategy. Time management is key. One should approach the easy questions first and maintain accuracy while gaining speed.

Chhavi Gupta (CAT 2017, 100%ile)

It is advisable to start taking mock tests while preparing for CAT and monitor your progress by keeping a record of your strengths and weaknesses. Your main focus should be on achieving an accuracy of around 75-80% in VARC and 90-100% in LRDI and QA before increasing your speed and number of attempts. Remember to remain calm on the day of the exam. CAT is primarily an aptitude test and does not require intense coaching. However, if you struggle with finding motivation and persistence in self-study, consider joining an institute for better guidance and a structured timetable.

Avidipto Chakraborty (CAT 2016, 100%ile)

CAT is an unpredictable exam as one cannot anticipate the questions that will be asked. It's crucial to attempt mock tests as they prepare you for a variety of scenarios such as easy, moderate, difficult, lengthy, and vague questions. If you have attempted enough mock tests, you will not be surprised by anything in the actual exam. It helps you stay calm while taking the test. You should connect with people around you who are preparing for the exam, either through social media or your friend circle, to stay motivated.

The CAT toppers list 2023 shall include those candidates who have scored above the 90 percentile in the exam. Given how competitive the exam is, the toppers list is often segregated based on gender, engineering or non-engineering, and location.
