Description

CAT score

Class 10 score

The aggregate percentage scored in Class 10 or equivalent is an indicator of a candidate’s academic performance.

Class 12 score

Marks will also be based on a candidate’s ability to think critically, analyze information, and indulge in coherent arguments which are important for managerial roles.

Academic Diversity

To guarantee the fair and equitable representation of students from other streams, extra points are awarded to candidates with backgrounds not related to engineering. It enables candidates from diverse academic backgrounds to bring up a variety of perspectives and approaches to problem-solving. A more creative and innovative learning environment is created due to academic diversity. Collaboration among diverse academic groups enables candidates to work effectively in teams. Every institute has a different basis for academic diversity.

Admission Process at IIMs

Individual IIMs release their admission requirements and selection procedures before the CAT exam. This helps candidates learn about the minimum required cut-off percentiles, CAT score weightage in IIMs, selection parameters, and the procedure for shortlisting candidates for IIM admission.

  1. The first step is to appear for the CAT examination and obtain the minimum cutoff score specified by the institute.
  2. Candidates must apply for the WAT/GD-PI round by visiting the official websites of the IIMs as soon as the CAT results are made public.
  3. After this, shortlisting of the candidates must be done for the Written Ability Test (WAT) or Group Discussion (GD) rounds. Candidates are shortlisted for this stage on the basis of their CAT scores and academic performance. Selected candidates will receive calls from the IIMs for the WAT or GD rounds. Applicants have between 15 and 45 minutes to write a brief essay on assigned topics. A group of candidates is given a specific topic to discuss during the GD round. The purpose of the GD round is to assess candidates' aptitude for group dynamics.
  4. Prior to the final admission, the Personal Interview (PI) will be conducted through the Common Admission Process. Candidates are evaluated on a number of factors in this round, including their ability to communicate, their general knowledge, their presence of mind, etc.
  5. Finally, a merit list will be prepared based on CAT percentile, WAT/GD and PI performance, academic history, academic diversity, work experience, and gender diversity.
