The Consortium of NLUs will release the CLAT first selection merit list 2026 on the official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The NLU-wise seat allotment list will have the names of the eligible candidates, ranks and categories. The CLAT 2026 merit list is released separately for the UG and PG courses. The candidates whose names will appear on the 1st allotment list will need to pay the confirmation fee for Freeze and Float options and complete their admission by the deadline.
A total of 5 seat allotment lists will be released for CLAT 2026 for different National Law Universities (NLUs). Once the CLAT 2026 counselling registration is over, the Consortium releases the CLAT first allotment list 2026 of eligible candidates. What is the First Allotment List of CLAT?
The CLAT First Allotment List is the initial list released by the Consortium of NLUs as part of the CLAT counselling procedure 2026. This list allocates seats to the candidates across various National Law Universities (NLUs) based upon their CLAT 2026 rank, category, and the preferences they chose during the CLAT counselling process. It serves as the first step in the multi-round seat allocation process, enabling candidates to secure their admission, opt for an upgrade, or withdraw from the process. The first allotment list of CLAT 2026 is crucial as it sets the stage for subsequent rounds, reflecting the demand for the top NLUs.
How is the 1st Allotment List of CLAT Prepared?
The CLAT 2025 First Allotment List is prepared by the Consortium of NLUs based upon a structured seat allocation process:
1. Criteria for Seat Allocation
- CLAT 2026 Rank: The most important factor in determining your position in the allotment process.
- NLU Preferences: The list reflects the order of preferences provided by the candidates during the CAT counselling registration process.
- Category: Reservation policies for the General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PwD categories are taken into account.
- Availability of Seats: The number of seats available for each category at a specific NLU determines the allocation.
- Domicile Reservations: Certain NLUs offer specific reservations for the domicile candidates, impacting seat allocation for the local aspirants.
2. Role of Merit-Cum-Preference
The merit-cum-preference system ensures a fair and transparent seat allocation procedure:
- Merit-Based: Candidates with higher CLAT 2026 ranks get priority in the seat allocation.
- Preference-Based: Among candidates with similar ranks, preference for NLUs, as indicated during the counselling decides the allotment. For example, if two candidates rank closely and both have NLSIU Bangalore as their top choice, the higher-ranked candidate gets the seat first.
