CMAT and CET are two well known MBA entrance exams conducted for admission to the top MBA colleges of India. Both the exams are conducted in online mode. In this article, we have provided a detailed comparison between the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and Maharashtra Master in Business Administration Common Entrance Test (MAH MBA CET).

What is CMAT?

CMAT or Common Management Admission Test is a national level examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The examination is conducted for admission to the AICTE approved institutions situated in India. CMAT is conducted every year in the month of February-March.

What is CET?

MAH MBA CET or Maharashtra Master in Business Administration Common Entrance Test is a state-level MBA entrance examination conducted for admission in the MBA colleges of Maharashtra. The exam is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education DTE, Maharashtra every year in the month of March-April.

CMAT vs CET: Eligibility Criteria

Provided below is the eligibility criteria of CMAT and MAH MBA CET

  • Candidates must have completed a bachelor’s degree from any recognized institution.

  • Those who are pursuing their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply for CMAT 2021

  • Candidates must be a citizen of India

  • There is no age bar to apply for CMAT 2021

  • Candidates must have completed a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks(45% for reserved category candidates)

  • Those who are studying in the final year of their bachelor's degree courses or those awaiting their final year results are also eligible to apply. 

  • Applicant must be a citizen of India.

CMAT vs CET: Exam Pattern

The question paper of CMAT is divided into four sections namely General Awareness, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation and Language Comprehension. The question paper has an additional section i.e Innovation & Entrepreneurship. On the other hand, the sections of the MAH MBA CET exam are Logical Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability / Reading Comprehension. Both the exams contain Objective type multiple choice questions that need to be answered by choosing one out of the four options provided. A detailed comparison between the exam pattern of CMAT and the exam pattern of MAH MBA CET is provided below.

CMAT vs CET: Counselling

The counselling and selection process of CMAT is different from CET. Candidates who want to participate need to register for the counselling round before the deadline while those who are appearing for the CMAT counselling will have to appear for the selection rounds of the college. MAH MBA CET Counselling Process 2021

The counselling process of MAH MBA CET starts by registering for the counselling. Candidates who are registering for the counselling round can choose their desired courses and institutions. After that, candidates are called for the document verification round where the authorities verify all the details filled by the candidates. Seats will be allotted on the basis of choices made by the candidates during the form filling process. Once the seat is allotted to the candidates, they will have to pay the counselling fee and confirm their admission.

CMAT 2021 Selection Process

Once the results of CMAT 2021 are out, candidates can check the cutoff of their desired management institutions to know if they are eligible for admission there or not. After that, they can apply to that college. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their scores in CMAT and then called for the selection procedure. The selection process of CMAT 2021 mainly includes four rounds i.e Group Discussion (GD), Written Aptitude Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). Final selection will be done on the basis of performance in all the rounds. Selected candidates may submit the annual fees of the college and confirm their admission. 

CMAT vs CET: Key Differences

Here are some of the main differences between the CMAT and CET exam

  • CMAT has a negative marking one mark while there is no negative marking in the MAH CET exam

  • CMAT is a national level entrance exam while MAH CET is a state-level exam

  • The question paper of the CET examination contains more reasoning type questions in comparison to the CMAT exam

  • MAH CET has verbal reasoning questions. Around 20 questions are from this section. But no such kinds of questions are asked in the CMAT.

  • Candidates who are applying for admission in the Innovation & Entrepreneurship section of CMAT while there is no such section in the MAH CET exam.

  • The total duration of the MAH CET exam is 150 minutes while the total duration of the CMAT exam is 210 minutes.

  • The proportion of quant questions in the question paper of CMAT is more than CET

Yes, there is a negative marking of -1 for each incorrect answer in the CMAT examination but there is no negative marking in the MAH MBA CET examination.

Colleges which offer MBA admission without entrance exam?

Dear Student,

There are many private colleges and universities offering MBA in India, that allow direct MBA admission without entrance exams. AICTE has also allowed colleges to offer MBA admission based on UG merit. However, this is only for any seats lying vacant after merit-based admissions have been conducted.

Some colleges also have management quota seats reserved for which either they conduct an entrance test or offer direct admission. You can check this article on the direct MBA admission process for more details.
